I'm a coach and couldn't care less about a participation trophy. Tell me what I have to do to win and figure it out. Don't whine about not having a shot. If I'm the 32 seed just to fill a spot, then I don't deserve a chance.

Problem is that teams who have no shot and don't belong in the playoffs have made many 1st round games glorified scrimmages.

making the playoffs is no longer a reward. The post-season should be a reward for good play. Now all you have to do is field a team and you can make the playoffs.

When you have winless teams making the playoffs the system is wrong. Only ones who think this is a good thing are the coaches/principals who want the easy way out.

It's a challenge to make playoffs and win. Not supposed to be easy.

Damn

That's our high school (VC). Highland hadn't won a game all year -- they only have 6 players. My heart really felt bad for them last night.

that's the problem. EVERYONE makes the playoffs now due to the stupid split. Only people who think this is a good idea is Norman Booker and his sheep.

There is literally no challenge to make the playoffs when winless teams are not only making the playoffs, they aren't even the lowest seed.

Exactly. Take the Superdome Classic. First two decks used to be filled for the 4A game (which is always the middle game Saturday), now aside from the sidelines the Dome is pretty empty.

The split has killed off the interest from casual fans.

Basketball attendance has struggled for years now so it may not have the impact on basketball that it had on football. Still, it has taken away the "must see" intrigue of the playoffs in all sports from many casual fans.

Basketballs struggle IMO has been moving out of Lafayette. There is much more walk in traffic there than any other location.
