You really are in the know on this. What I hate the most is that it won't determine a true state champion. The public/private issue seems like it is taking us back to segregation all over again

Privates won't do anything unless prop 18 passes.

one excuse i hear is about player safety and that Jesuit as the largest school in a select division is much bigger than Miller McCoy who would be the smallest... that's hogwash.

if safety was really an issue, Berwick would have never scheduled us (neither would have Miller McCoy). Ouachita and Ruston would have never scheduled 1A opponents who combined to go 1-19. Clark and Cohen would have forfeited to Curtis instead of being tackling dummies.

I think one thing the selcts are ticked about is 2 divisions and publics would get 5... I know at least two principals may propose 4 and 4....

the publics would have no business with 5 brackets...

the funny thing - is this could put curtis and eca right back where the big boys feared they would be... WITH THEM....

I don't think so. Either way, if the privates split off or if there is a compromise for the middle classifications, I think there will still be a division in between for ECA and Curtis.

There is going to be a big uproar already, a lot of stuff is going to change IMO.

This from NOLA:

quote:

The breakdown of the Division I football playoffs also would pair schools whose enrollment ranges from 336 (Miller-McCoy) to 2,246 (Jesuit whose 1,123 enrollment is doubled because it is an all-boys school).

I don't care what the reason is, these two schools won't be in the same class. That class, at the very least, will have the upper limit set at 400-something to keep ECA, Calvary, Uhigh, and Curtis down.

I give credit to Evangel, they weren't scared to play in 5A.

When has John Curtis ever played in the state's highest classification? They probably could have won a state title once every five years instead of four out of every five years. Are the people at Curtis that egotistical that they have to find the easiest division to win a state title in?

No, otherwise they wouldn't play up at all. This has already been discussed ad nauseum. The premise is that Curtis doesn't want to sacrifice the ability for their other programs to be competitive just for football to be in 5A. It was shown how horrible Evangel was in all other sports besides football during their 5A years. Curtis doesn't want to throw the rest of the school under the bus like that.

That's a solid excuse because they could have competed in the other sports as well.

Not really, at least at that time. During that timeframe, the other sports outside of football were not nearly as good as they are now. Basketball just won their first title last year and girls basektball just picked up as well. Track won their first title since the 80s just two years ago. It was a different ball game back then. Hell, if they would have moved to 5A you might be able to argue those teams would never have taken off. Just look at Evangel, they still only have one decent sport outside of football.

It's really a shame that this thing seems to be about two high schools that have less than 200 boys a piece causing a bunch of schools, some with nearly 1000 boys or more, to complain and try and to change the whole system.

at least some are now coming out and admitting the truth, that is all about 2 schools... and if they were in 4a and 5a... you wouldn't be hearing this.

yeah.. some that want a split still won't compete for state titles... but they think they will get students/athletes back.. wrong.

Look at how crappy TAPPS is compared to UIL and the MPHSAA is compared to the MHSAA. I know a LA model would not follow because our private school system is radically different, but splitting competition doesn't do anyone any good. At any rate, the public high schools will probably end up the crappy league.

Louisiana private schools have the power in the population centers of the south. Add in the select enrollment public schools and the new association would dominate the old association in talent, coaching and financials.

I like the Indest quote about most schools not having a chance to win state anyway even if they do split

ETA also if they just eliminate districts then they eliminate weak teams from being forced to play ECA and JC. Then ECA and JC are forced to schedule teams that will play them.

Football superclass would fix all of this but too many retards at the lhsaa to figure that out.
