Maybe review should only be used for fair/foul calls, HRs, scoring plays, and catches.

And maybe that isn't even correct. That play last night just felt so wrong to me. Just didn't feel like that's how things should be.
Baseball is cruel, man.

I don't feel like it's a cheap out though, because almost all replays are a challenge of inches. My thing is that we don't have an issue when challenging a hustle play to first, but we have an issue with a player who has no business being halfway to second with a man in scoring position and then sliding incorrectly, feet first, and a foot coming off the bag.

Can you please tell me the approximate year the rule that allowed it was changed/eliminated?

2016, approximately.

I mean, the rules never really allowed it, but it was so common that there is an entry in the MLB rules glossary defining the neighborhood play.

When they expanded replay in 2014, the rules specifically made the neighborhood play exempt from review.

I'm struggling to get my feelings across here

What is MLB review trying to accomplish? Are they trying to keep guys from being called safe when they beat a throw to a bag but their spike comes off the bag for a split second? What are they trying to rid the game of?

Cause it ain't bad calls. In the regular season you get 1 review

I'd actually be more ok with the play last night if EVERY play was reviewed.

Damn near every call is reviewed in football. Their review system and challenge rules make me think they're trying to get everything right.

If MLB is trying to get everything right, then I'm down. But that doesn't seem to be the case. And that made that out feel cheap to me.

They are giving managers the opportunity to review what they think is a wrong call. You get one opportunity a game (2 in playoffs), so you should probably use it carefully.

The Cubs challenged what they believe was the wrong call, and it was. You are arguing that "well it was only an inch off, I feel cheated." Now you are using, what you think was a "Bad correct call" as a slam to the MLB for wanting to get everything right and challenge every play.

Maybe you are struggling to get what you want across, because it seems pretty simple to me...Cubs challenge based on video evidence, and they won

Thoughts?
Players have been taught for roughly 150 years to hold the tag on a baserunner, just in case he overslides or loses contact with the bag. Nothing new here, except the correct call was made.

You realize teams have someone watching the game just like we are at home right, and probably with more and every view possible.

So yeah maybe they only get one review and I don't know the rules there, but it's not like they are going to waste it on something that looked close in person but on tv was clear. They know just as well if not better then we do on tv.

I'm on my phone and need to get back to working but google
"Javier Baez Oct 8 2016 tag out"

If you thought the play last night was egregious, Baez slid into second and they called him out when his hands were past the bag and his feet before it, so he lifted his stomach up just barely and that's when he was out.

But you know what, as ridiculous as it is, he's freaking out. Keep contact with the bag, and we don't have an issue.

The reason I like this, is yeah last night was an extreme example but we've all seen the same play over and over where they ump missed the play and the runner was clearly not touching the base but called safe.
