The same reason why college football is better when FSU, USC, tOSU, Michigan, ND, Penn St., and Miami are very strong and nationally ranked in the top 15.

Yeah, except it isn't.

College football does just fine when those teams aren't in it.

Scott has two years left on his deal plus a team option for a third. I certainly don't think he's a great coach or anything but I can't imagine the Lakers front office running off guy like Byron Scott after only one year when it's clear that they were tanking.

No, the league makes bank and is popular when you have polarizing teams playing each other in a great series. And playing at high levels.

Outside of the fanboys of the teams left, the finals are not really that exciting for the vast majority of fans. Take me for instance. I have tried to find someone to get behind and pull for with the teams that are left. I cannot make myself be happy with any of the teams that are left. I just cant do it. I've tried but I can't.

While I agree with you that it is fine. I, as an average college football fan would also agree that it's better when the teams i've mentioned are relevant and competing for championships.

The lakers aren't getting rid of Byron Scott. Not unless he pulls his dick out in the middle of a game, and says all white people can suck my dick. And maybe throws a shot out to Donald Stirling while he's at it.

The league knows this. This is why they're airdropping in Joey Crawford into all the crucial games to ensure a Lebron James vs Stephen Curry finals.

You're 100% right.

Look at the Finals Nielsen ratings since Jordan retired. They were regularly in the mid-teens during Jordan's last run. The only time it's gotten above 10 since then is when either the Lakers or Lebron are in the Finals.

The league is making its highest revenues ever. The TV deals they just made are off the charts, even with the Lakers and Knicks and Celtics sucking.

They are fine. The only thing that is relevant is the level of play.

Yours is a commonly held opinion and i think it makes for interesting talk show chatter but i think ultimately a previously irrelevant franchise can become a household name if they get a chance to tell their story. A few decades ago imo it was more about magic, larry, and michael than it was about the lakers, celtics, and bulls.

So bring on a houston, gs, cleveland, and atl final four... I'm still watching

Things are worth more now than they were one, two, three decades ago. Inflation is inflation. I would go and look at the ratings. I am not saying the league is not doing fine. It's obviously doing fine. But traditional powers draw huge crowds.

The level of play is really only relevant to whether or not you are a fan of who's playing or the teams who are playing. Like I said earlier. I cannot find a team/player to pull for in this years playoffs since the spurs got beat.

I agree that Lebron, Curry, Harden, and whoever from the hawks are all talented players, who play on really good teams, but I just can't find a single team who I can pull for without throwing up in my mouth.

Well who do you think its about now? It's no different, its about Lebron...and the cavs. Harden/Howard.....and the rockets. Whoever.............and the hawks. It's definitely about Curry......and the Warriors.

This is a player driven league. Moreso individual players over a group of players. It's never going to change. And it certainly won't ever be about the "franchise"....unless you are talking about franchises with history, and histories that include banners.

The trap the nba fell into with larry, magic, and michael was marketing personalities... Unlike the nfl model for example. Kobe and shaq were easy to sell... Tim and pop refused to even try. Lebron is the key for the ratings in the finals this year imo... People will watch to root for or against him in the finals this year.

I agree with that argument. It is about players people will root for or against... The jerseys matter less than the player recognition.

Lakers saw that the Marlins were paying 3 managers. Figured they needed to up the ante.

The NBA front office might implode if the Atlanta Hawks are in the NBA finals. I can't think of a worse team to have in the finals ratings wise, than the atlanta fricking hawks.

I'll add something to that thought. I was all for the Miami Heat when Shaq went there. I hated the lakers when Shaq was there just because he played for the Lakers.

I liked D-Wade and Shaq on the heat together. Was a fan of Wade until Lebron went there and became the Lakers all over again for me. I now do not like Wade and I am glad that both the Lakers and the Heat suck.

Maybe they need to do like the Marlins a guys who's a scout/former GM and has only high school coaching experience.
