Sad day for the Lakers. Buss was a great owner.
His drooling, poor man's Billy Madison, more arrogant than James Dolan son is going to ruin three decades of great work.

when i heard buss went to the hospital my initial thought was "the lakers are about to become a shite show"
little buss is either going to be the next dolan or he's going to become a huge penny pincher
he can't keep up dolan-level spending b/c dolan funds the knicks through other means. if he goes sterling on the lakers? damn

Yeah, the Buss family made most of their money through the Lakers and running the franchise brilliantly. It's not like they have outside Mark Cuban money

exactly. this became a really big deal post-shaq when buss couldn't spend like the knicks were
that's why kobe threw his hissy fit and they went and got gasol
if the lakers lose money, buss lost money. the lakers were the only big thing he owned and his entire revenue source

My Jerry Buss story
During the 2010 NBA finals (Lakers vs Celtics) I was living in Vegas. I was playing a $275 1 table satellite at the RIO and after about 20 minutes I realized the old guy in the 3 seat was Jerry Buss. He plays a lot of cards out there and it wasn't really a suprise to see him but was always odd to me was that he was playing during the Lakers/Celtics game. It was either game 6 or game 7 I'm not certain which but I know it was a deciding game in the series. The game was being played on every TV in the room and he did not look at the game one time. At one point someone at the table mentioned something about the Lakers hitting a big shot and he just mumbled something that no one could hear. Never said a word other than that and after folding a lot then losing he left quietly. Really cool story blah blah blah just always thought it was weird that during a finals game that was in Los Angelas he was instead playing an insignificant one table tourney in which the winner won like $1500
ETA - I also did not win (sic anti-brag)

I'm sorry to hear that. He was the kind of guy who did a lot with his opportunity to own a franchise and in a small way become part of millions of homes.
I appreciated him putting a lot into his franchise and I do think the NBA owes a lot to the owners like him who believe in the quality of the product as much as or more than the quality of their annual bottom line.
The NBA was lucky to have him running one of their most important franchises for decades.

Kobe's owner >>> LeBron's owner

Unreal. If you're making your money off of the team winning...that's one hell of a successful run in operating a business.
