Its a tough tough statement because Fed had NO competition till Nadal came along. Nadal probably hit his prime at the same time Fed was starting his decline,2008. Fed was still ~26/27.

I think the interesting question, is how does all of this play out if Rafa is 3 years older?

Full disclosure, I'm a Rafa fan: but I think under that scenario Rafa would have more slams right now than Fed.

I think that's more applicable to Djok, who is hitting his prime as Rafa is declining (almost certainly due to health).

They are a year apart.

Djok missed his physical prime because he was busy being a head case

Presently, Rafi and Djokivic are clearly better than Federer.

Of course, Federer is nearly 32. I'm leaving his recent performances out of it. It's not fair to expect Fed to compete with those guys now and in the future. Father time catches up to everybody.

Naw, I don't think so.

Of course not, because you're what...15, 17 years old?

When everything you do you think is the greatest of all time.

Our hyper sports dialogue is being dominated by people who don't have much perspective apart from what's in front of them because they've been on earth for 2 minutes.

8 years ago Mac said Fed is the GOAT and no one will ever touch him.

Now it's Nadal b/c he beat Fed a few times...

Before that Navratilova in womens, then Graf...now it's Serena.

It's always going to be the new thing...because that's what we are witnessing...ergo on this LeBron GOAT junk and before that Kobe GOAT...shite, Jordan had barely retired before the Kobe fan adolescents started pushing him.

Out of sight, out of mind...players from the past. We want to believe what we're seeing now is the best ever...hubris.

If we are talking GOAT, Fed is still ahead of Rafa. That may change if Rafa can continue to win majors outside of France.

No major injuries and the Federer/Rafa GOAT discussion will pick up. I don't see anyone on the horizon touching him. He could easily win 6-7 Majors in next three years. If Feds gets none, which is not crazy talk for Feds at this stage of his career, GOAT goes to Rafa. Even if he ties Feds the head to head is pretty hard to argue

I'm glad Djoke hit his prime. He's an amazing damn player. But he sure took his sweet time to get there. He's 26.

Right, I wasn't explicitly referring to age so much as that zone when they really played at their highest levels.

Rafa's was a few years ago, when Djok wasn't focused/motivated etc.

So when did Sampras stop being the GOAT?

Funny how no ones mentioned Sampras in this discussion of past-and-present so far.

Your argument sucks.

Andy Roddick came after Pete Sampras. Nobody said Roddick was the greatest. You know why? Because he wasn't the greatest.
