I'm uninformed on Smart, but what's the deal? I thought everyone thought he was the next big time young coach?

I think it has the potential to be a top 5 job. It's currently somewhere 5-10 not really debatable.

Exactly. There is absolutely no way you can name 10 jobs better than UGA.

and you can hardly count Saban being his boss as a bad thing, as I already stated.

So how many of Saban's past DCs have gone on to be successful HCs? Better than Richt?

Muschamp? No.
Steele? No.
Pelini? No.

I would say this is quite the risk.

In no particular order.

Alabama
Florida
LSU
USCw
Texas
OSU
Oklahoma
Michigan
Notre Dame
Florida St
Oregon

UGA could make it to #10 or #9 on this list though.

It will never be a top 5 job.

All of that was said about Will Muschamp. It doesn't mean he knows how to build a roster, talk to the public, design the teams identity, discipline, evaluate talent, etc.

Most of those schools you listed have no discernible distinction above UGA. Alabama, USCw, Texas, OSU, Oklahoma, ND. Those are all above UGA, you could make an argument for LSU and Florida and Michigan if you want I guess. Florida State and Oregon lol?

I would def take Oregon off.

Georgia sits on a recruiting hotbed. Oregon is benefitting greatly from USC Sanctions and fantastic coaching/player development. Oregon has made the best of its situation and for somebody to mention us in the top 10 shows how far we've come.

Still not top 10. I'd put Georgia around 7-10. LSU, FSU, tOSU, and UGA are all pretty interchangeable.

Probably a stupid question but when does it become 'official' that he's going to GA? Does he coach this Saturday against Florida?

Long-tenured coach, wins a lot of games, recent years has maybe underperformed with the talent he's got.

Sheeeiittttt.

Here's Richt's career in a nutshell:
Years 1-4: Scavenged the Ron Zook era.
Years 5-14: Went 9-3 with 11-1 talent over and over again.

The guy is not a good coach. When I handicap UGA games for gambling puroses, I make a Richt adjustment.

When my team plays UGA, I have a glimmer of hope that we'll win even when we really suck, because Mark Richt is their coach and so they have a decent chance of completing shitting the bed. This has been the story since 2006 on.

I wish he was still around.

If Bama replaces Smart with Pruitt, I'd say that's a plus.. Smart seems more like a puppet whereas Pruitt a great defensive mind.. Almost a win-win for Alabama...As much as I hate to say that.

All of those jobs have way higher expectations than GA. GA has the facilities, the recruiting, and a less rabid fanbase. The only one on that list that might have more tepid fans is Oregon.

I would add Texas too.. Haven't heard too many grumblings. They seem content with where they're at.. Might be wrong though.

Ray Goff was the Man?

If you are referring to Dooley, he is one of the most overrated coaches in history.

I love the statement about the Saban coaching tree? Is that like the Belichek tree, which is basically dead limbs.
