One team in Texas goes 8-4, head coach gets $5 million a year. Another team in Texas goes 8-4, their coach is about to be fired.

Exactly. A&M is desperate to have the continuity elite schools have, and they want to prove they can be a big boy school. Unfortunately most teams do that by winning on the field, A&M thinks talking wins games, hasn't done anything so far.

they only overpaid by about 1.5 mil per year... so less than $10 million, they've got the money.. might as well lock up their coach

i still think he's a great coach and think they will compete for the SEC West year in and year out in a couple years, they are gonna be bringing in a lot better players than what he started with. their defense has been atrocious the past 2 years

At least the buyout is low. They'll appreciate that some day.

hmmmm... im glad lSU doesnt overpay their coach.

I mean you have the best player in college football and you lose 4 games? doesnt sound like a guy worth 5 mil.

Ehh, i really dont see this happening. They still have to go up against UT and LSU for the best defensive recruits in a close proximity. They will struggle.

he's likely referring to the fact we raised $740m this past fiscal year. That's $150m more than the next largest amount ever by a public school and about a $400m bump year over year for us. Spending a couple of million to not frick with that kind of cash flow is a no-brainer. Even if he sucked, and it's fricking amusing seeing you guys pretend he does, it would be money well spent.

Donations are obviously going to drop either way because the excitement wears off but losing your coach can suck the life out of that kind of giving overnight. And not spending a million here or there to avoid a $100m drop in academic giving would be fricking retarded.

I just thought about this too. You have the hands down best player in all of college football and you lost 4 games.. and you finish 4th in your division and around 8th in your conference..

Is still don't see the revitalization. They went 4-4 in the SEC and Manziel is gone after their huge bowl game against Duke.

Well the school has had 740 million dollars in donations from Aug 2012-Aug 2013.

Its not like they don't have the money to spend.

People have been raving about UT's money the last week or so, but the Aggies have some pretty deep pockets as well.

ETA: Hell A&M has 8 Billion dollars in endowment money, the rest of the ENTIRE SEC has 12.5
