Truly is a special person. Great basketball player and an even better person. Hes a modern day "Renaissance Man". All i knew about KAT was that he was an excellent basketball player, but didnt know much else about him. And they just showed a little ESPN thing where he was hitting golf balls, bowling, and talking about his upbringing. Hes a very interesting person so I decided to read some articles about him. And I truly was blown away with what I have read.
quote:

Karl-Anthony Towns the person is a beloved and immensely talented 19-year-old from Piscataway, N.J., and St. Joseph’s of Metuchen who would rather dive into a good book than go out partying, who refuses to talk about himself unless forced, who would make baked goods for his teachers, who spent his free Saturdays prior to college volunteering with his girlfriend on behalf of the charitable organization Parents of Autistic Children, who served on the student council, who is far from the typical prospect who lives and breathes basketball, who is an avid golfer and pianist.

“We’re talking about a very special kid,” said Ed Bright, his AAU coach with Sports U. “He’s a Renaissance man.”

Ask for a story about this strapping 7-footer and you get three — tales about his unselfishness on and off the court, of his reluctance to be the star until he was an upperclassman, of his love for his family, of his decision to finish high school in three years while maintaining a 4.2 grade-point average while leading St. Joe’s to its first Tournament of Champions crown.

quote:

Towns isn’t overly concerned with the limelight or building a brand, he is who he is and is very comfortable in his own skin. (Not an easy task being a seven-footer at the age of 15). When Towns was a freshman in high school, Berger took him to REED Academy, an autistic center in Oakland, New Jersey.

“Towns fit in like a five-year NBA vet straight from an NBA Cares session,” Berger said.

Towns regularly sat with the least popular kid at lunch to show everyone there is much more to people than perceived status. And when a teacher didn’t show up for class, Towns filled in as the substitute teacher for the day… as a freshmen. In a varsity game as a freshman, Towns scored 25 points through three quarters and didn’t shoot again the entire fourth quarter in order to stay on 25 points to commemorate a former St. Joseph student who had recently died in the Marines at age 25.

quote:

Towns is a teenager who visits hospitalized children unannounced, who volunteered at a New Jersey home for autistic children after he was moved to do something following the Newtown, Conn., school shootings, who gave a needy Bahamian child the socks off his feet during the Kentucky team’s tour there last summer.

They also go into his basketball background, which is just as incredible. Kid is going to be a flat out stud.

Just read any 1 of those articles on him or just google Karl Anthony Towns Renaissance Man... you will be blown away at this young man.

Was a fan of his from just a basketball perspective, but now an even bigger fan of his.

Yea he did... Hard not to like him after reading what he's done at such a young age already.

I'm on my phone so I'm having trouble linking it, but you should Google his Gatorade Player of the Year acceptance speech. It's pretty awesome. Him and I think Marcus Lee also did some videos on YouTube responding to kids who have cancer/illnesses with little personalized greetings.

Also never heard a bad word about the kid at UK and he spent time there before playing when he played for the Dominican Team under Cal. Glad I got see him play for UK even if it was just for a season.

Only reason why I liked Kentucky this past season. Dude seems truly grounded. I'll be cheering for him where ever he goes

Idk why but this expression always annoys me. He's gonna be the number one overall basketball pick in this year's draft so that's basically impossible.

You're probably right, but I will say that the quality of an individual is measured and evaluated on just about all 7 billion people in the world and is far more general. Basketball, is very specific, and although it is very popular, it's still a smaller sample (i.e., a smaller pond).
