Josh Pastner will return as @Memphis_MBB coach. Story upcoming.

Memphis couldn't afford that $10.6m buyout

Will "only" have to bay him $8m if they fire him next season

I remember being a Pastner fan years ago. I'll hang my head now.

Everyone loved him and wanted him to succeed (me included) bc he's a super nice guy and doesn't drink and doesn't curse but I called a spade a spade from almost the very beginning that he wasn't gonna be successful

Sad.

That program will have nothing left of what it used to be soon.

I can't trust a person that doesn't drink or cuss.

How did that clown get the reputation of being some sort of wunderkind again?

Kelvin Sampson and UofH are gonna supplant Memphis as an AAC power.

He started coaching when he was like in high school and apparently was a great assistant. I remember Cal desperately wanting to bring him to Kentucky with him.

Stoudamire may have gone to the worst job in the WCC, but still better than being a Memphis assistant.

Pastner's contract is certainly up their as one of the biggest WTF contracts in college sports. You'd think Memphis had all the leverage there.

If he's gone, you have to wonder if Pearl would make a move if he has another sub-par year at AU.

Problem is they won't be able to afford Brucey until Pastner's buyout is basically non existent unless Pearl somehow manages to get fired from auburn which I don't at all expect to happen

IIRC it was after his first year so If that's when it was then yea

Reasoning was basically they were so paranoid after Cal being poached they freaked out at the mere suggestion that teams might be interested in Pastner

I can't remember if it was LSU, but he definitely flirted with him then they gave him like the dumbest contract ever because of it

Which made no sense because he was like their 8th choice and basically had just biggybacked Cal's success
