15 million signing bonus with 36.5 fully guaranteed over the first 2 years of the contract.
Norman will make 20 million through the first year and 37 million by 2017 and 51 million if on the roster in 2018.

If Washington does not want Norman through he can be cut with 18.5 million per year after 2 years. Washington can cut him in 2018 with 3 million in dead money and 2019 with 6 million in dead money.

quote:

Per a source with knowledge of the deal, Norman will receive a $15 million signing bonus along with $36.5 million fully guaranteed, earned over the first two years. While that’s not $50 million (duh), it’s a great payout for a deal signed on April 22. The first three years are strong as well.

Norman will make $20 million through the first year, $37 million (if he earns a $500,000 46-man roster bonus in 2017, as he likely will) through 2017, and $51 million through 2018. That’s more than Norman would have gotten under two years of the franchise tag in Carolina, where his $13.95 million tender in 2016 would have become $16.74 million in 2017, for a total of $30.69 million over two seasons.

If Washington chooses not to keep Norman through three years at $51 million (an average of $17 million per year), he’ll exit with $18.5 million per year over two. (They’ll have to make a decision early in his third year; the balance of his injury-only guarantee becomes fully-guaranteed on the fifth day of the 2018 league year.)

With the deal paying out $51 million over the first three years, the likelihood of Washington keeping Norman over the full five years increases, since he makes $11.5 million in 2019 and $12.5 million in 2020, numbers that will be well below the market for high-end cornerbacks by the end of the decade.

totally front loaded deal... Saints could not do that but they could have offered him more money later it seems.

Interesting article on Brees and the Saints,
quote:

Brees, who has the NFL’s highest cap hit this season at $30 million, is widely expected to work out a new contract with the Saints some time this year. But Brees apparently thinks highly enough of Norman that he was willing to expedite the process of getting a deal done if it would allow the Saints to get a deal done with Norman. Brees played against Norman several times when Norman played for the Panthers, and Brees apparently thinks Norman is the kind of player who could help the Saints get back to the Super Bowl.

I love the guy, but there is always an article about him willing to take less money or do whatever it takes to sign or keep good players.

Nothing actually happens beyond that article though.

Brees is a phony. You lap that shite up like a puppy. His contract is the reason they've been in cap hell for some time.

Compare Brees' contract to the top 15 QB salaries and it makes his deal look like a bargain. And if you think Brees is a phony...I guess ignorance is bliss. There's not a more genuine guy in the whole league.

NFL contracts aren't worth the paper they are signed on. I feel bad for the players, they drive the most successful sport and league in this country and yet they have the worst financial system

If the players just don't blow their money so quickly, they can withstand a lockout. Owners know this so they beat the shite out of the players in a CBA fight. The rank and file NFL players hardly can afford to withstand a lockout. There's the problem. Why do you think baseball and hockey players can withstand a lockout?

I agree but the MLBPA and NBAPA squared away guaranteed money way before players made the money they do now or had the star power they do now why wasn't nflpa able to do that

Because no leverage. You can blame Gene Upshaw for being so cozy with the owners. He was a pushover and NFL owners got more powerful as time went on. Players are playing against a highly stacked deck at this point. They have to shut down the NFL before they can instrument further change.

Norman's first regular season game as a Redskin will have him covering Antonio Brown.

He knows he has a year or two left and the saints aren't winning shite. Might as well get all he can.

I'd tell the front office to piss off too

Very few players in the NFL are worth the money they are paid once they are off their rookie deals...Brees has been worth every penny...

He may have a year or two of being highly productive but he can pull 4 years if he is willing to take less. Imagine he could take 2 years at 55 million or 4 years at 96 million to give the Saints a lower cap number. Dude could make a ton of money by extending the contract, he could even work out where he gets a position in the franchise when he retires.

from 2010-2016, Brees will have made less than Brady... the same Brady everyone lauds for taking all those for the team.

Brady's cap hits are lower, he gets massive signing bonuses so the cash numbers are in his favor

You are an idiot.

You could say Brees was a bargain all the years he played for the Saints..

He can't help 100 million is the going rate for a quarterback.

At least he earned his pay.

You realize some of the quarterbacks who have been 100 million dollar guys?

Jay Cutler (AND he had 2 probowl like receivers with a legit tighend at some points)

Matt Ryan (really? what has he done? won 1 playoff? 1?)

Colin Kaepernick (his own team doesn't want him any more)

Tony Romo (not better than Brees)

Eli Manning, while he has 2 superbowls, has been pretty shitty of late..

Even in Brees down years he's still around the top of the NFL in many passing statistics.

So tired of hearing idiots like you blame Brees.

Blame the GM for other shitty contracts, absolutely putrid drafting, and Gooddell setting the Saints back.. not Brees.

Up until the suspensions from Gooddell.. No other Quarterback in the ENTIRE NFL had more wins than Drew Brees since he joined the Saints in 2006. Not even Tom Brady.

He took a horrific franchise to the NFC championship in his first season. He won an NFL championship in 09 and Superbowl MVP.. and has won playoff games for them since.

So sick of hearing about Brees' contract. He's one of the very few who actually was underpaid and still earned his pay..

Exactly.

People around here downvoting the truth are absolutely fricking idiots. It's sad the hatred they have.

Should seriously look at what he has down vs the other's going rate. He is as consistent as it gets. He has even played hurt a number of times and still put up tremendous stats. He busts his arse.
