Apparently not the writer of that article.

It isn't inflation alone that caused the rise.

Did you know during the height of his time at wwe The Rock made 120m a year?

Just from the WWE / wrestling? Or does this include endorsements and other earnings as well?

If the former then holy shite I had no idea that WWE was a big enough business to justify that kind of money.

With 11 tournaments left in the season, Spieth will almost certainly break Woods' record for most earnings in a single season, $10.9 million set in 2007

If you would have won every official, non-alternate tournament in 2007, you would have pocketed $46,787,450 in 44 events.

If you would have done the same in 2014, you would have won $53,183,788 in 43 events.

Additionally, if you take Tiger's results from his 2007 tournaments and adjust them for the prize money that he would have won with 2014-2015 purses, he would have earned $13,077,359 in 2007. I only adjusted for the majors and significant tournaments in 2007 where tiger placed 10th or better.

Speith may still pass him, but that is a stout number.

Which was basically all of them.
12 top 10's in 16 events. He had a great year.

Yes it is.

Thanks for the research.

I was hoping it wasn't going to be the last post in a dying thread, but it's the only fair way to assess their respective years.

I'm sure someone could easily work backwards from Speith's results this year to the 2007 purses as well.

David Toms is 7th on the all time money list and he only won one major. Go figure.

It isn't inflation, it is the TIGER EFFECT

quote:

In 1985 Curtis Strange was the top money leader on tour, he won 3 times and he earned a total of $542,321. In 1985 he was the only player on tour to earn in excess of $500,000. The Inflation calculator to the left would indicate that normal rates on inflation would have put Curtis Strange’s $500k at $1.013 million in todays terms. That is a 100% increase but the Tiger Effect has created GREATER THAN 1,000% inflation of winnings on Tour. Take a look at this chart and you will see that drastic spike in winnings after 1995. This chart shows the number of players who earned greater than $500,000 and the number of players who earned over $1,000,000 in the given years. The pre-Tiger era between 1985 and 1995 was loaded with some of the greatest players of all time including Payne Stewart, Tom Watson, Ray Floyd, Mark O’Meara, Tom Kite, Paul Azinger and Greg Norman. I think it would be safe to say that in this Post Arnold and Nicklaus but pre-Tiger era Norman had the most profound effect on the game globally.
