I realize that it was a few days ago, but don't remember any of the NASCAR folks here talking about it.

The points loss and suspension for Jimmie Johnson and Chad Knaus were overturned a few days ago by the NASCAR head Appelate dude. The dude apparently found that there wasn't enough evidence to uphold the penalties. It seems kinda fishy to me that the Appealate dude happened to be an ex-GM executive and long time friend of Rick Hendrick. IMO, it was a slap in the face of all the NASCAR officials in the Tech line that found the problem and the 3 man panel that upheld the penalties last week. It makes NASCAR look like an even bigger joke than it already was when it comes to penalizing big name teams.

Also, if there was nothing wrong with the car, then way was Hendrick still fined $100,000?

Just because there wasn't enough evidence to uphold the penalties, doesn't mean there wasn't something wrong with the car.

Glad the penalties got overturned, though--NASCAR needs crew chiefs like Knaus that are always pushing the envelope--they're always under a microscope anyway.

It did come off as kind of weird with the fine staying in place, but I don't have the facts of the case. There must have been something there for him to overturn it because I read somewhere [article a couple of days ago] that it was pretty astonishing for this to happen. Even if the guy has connections to HMS, he is still an arbitrator for NASCAR.

I remember hearing Jimmie before the last race saying that he was still very confident in their case for the second appeal. I was thinking to myself, of course he has to say that, but yea, right. They got a snowballs chance...

I can see your point. But, personally I wanted them to fry. I don't like Jimmie Johnson and think he's one of the main reasons that NASCAR is in a steep downfall right now. But, then again, I can't blame him for Tony Stewart being the only driver that decided that 5 in a row was enough and it was time for someone else to win.

I'm a Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson fan, so admittedly I'm biased, but I hardly think JJ's the one to blame for NASCAR's slump in popularity. fricking around with the Chase, and a terrible selection of playoff tracks, in addition to a host of other factors (i.e., the ridiculous tandem racing we've seen at the usually exciting restrictor plate tracks the past few years) have all played a significant role in the decline as well. Can't blame Jimmie and Chad for working the system to perfection and winning well and often--that's what they're out there to do, after all

Here's to a great race @ Fontana this upcoming weekend!
