The conmputers wouldn't have punished you as much if you had scheduled Appalachian State or Youngstown State.
Can you quantify not much? One spot? 3 spots? As far as I know, only four of the six computer polls even count FCS teams. Two of those have FSU unranked, and the other two are 14th and 16th. If they played a solid FCS team, like say a 6-4 Towson squad, would they even be ranked in the polls that currently have them unranked?
The point is, some people are pointing to the OOC schedule, when that wasn't
the problem. FSU had West Virginia, USF, and Florida scheduled. I'm sure the AD at FSU knows the ACC sucks, just happens that it is even more so this year. So, in addition to the UF staple, FSU usually has a at least one other solid OOC opponent on the schedule. West Virginia backed out late this year. But go ahead and blame the poor OOC. I'm sure FSU had FBS teams knocking down the door to play with <8 months notice. FSU was just scared.
Last 4 years' OOC schedule:
WV*, USF, and UF
OU and UF
OU, BYU, and UF
BYU, USF, and UF
