Sixers announce that the great Jerry Colangelo has been hired as special advisor to managing general partner and chairman of basketball ops.

This came completely out of nowhere.

Are they no longer trusting the process

These two statements don't match. He's a special advisor to the GM and a special advisor to the Chairman of BBall Ops. At least that's how I read it.

And yeah, they had to do something eventually. They cannot allow Hinkie to just tank indefinitely.

Please refer to the Genius Hinkie by his proper title.

I don't think so. It will be interesting to see what his role remains there.

Oh I'm sure, but whenever these guys are brought in its usually so they can report back directly to the owner and tell them if the GM is a retard or not. And then the GM gets canned.

From the owner:
quote:

Tom Moore ?@tmoore76ers
#Sixers Harris: 'This situation hasn't been easy for us and necessitated a review. This is a big step.'
quote:

?@tmoore76ers
Harris: 'I think we're ready to go to the next phase. Jerry knows every player, every coach. His knowledge will be invaluable.' #Sixers
quote:

Tom Moore ?@tmoore76ers
#Sixers Harris: 'I want it to faster. Sure. I'm impatient.'
quote:

Tom Moore ?@tmoore76ers
#Sixers Harris: 'It's not about national embarrassment. ... The 3 of us are going to collaborate to make great decisions.' #NBA
They can say what they want about Hinkie still having final say and trusting "the process" but its clear as day the Owner aint happy

And there's this, which I think is true:
quote:

?netw3rk ?@netw3rk
the translation seems to be: Agents fricking despise Sam so we brought Jerry in so he can talk to them
I know Dell Demps probably has no interest in Hinkie's bs after what he pulled with Holiday

Dennis Allen was only brought in as a "special assistant." No reflection on Rob Ryan's job security

Dennis Allen did a bad job with the secondary then got a promotion so that's cool.

As far as Hinkie, if they want to can him, just can him. Unless Colangelo is there to only speak to agents and GMs and relay messages for Hinkie, it doesn't make a ton of sense. They're not going to have the same views on team building.

He also probably going to play a huge role in their scouting

League insiders speculate Jerry Colangelo may end up with a 76ers ownership piece as part of Chairman of Basketball Ops arrangement.

This helps it make a bit more sense

Well. Harris first comments about not being totally patient, interesting. Don't think colangelo is coming to seize personnel control but repair the relationship between the 76ers and agents and media. Hinkie gives like two interviews all year.

Regardless of what the Sixers say, they have empowered Colangelo to be the strongest voice on basketball decisions. Hinkie just got demoted.

Dont know if I buy that. Colangelo is apparently still going to live in Phoenix.

Yeah Mannix is the only one I have seen define it like that. I've seen some other comments (don't feel like scrolling down the tweetdeck) that make it look like Hinkie is still very much in control.

Would you? It was a horrible idea from the start.

I mean players don't start really making an impact in terms of W/L until their 3rd season, so I can understand a bit more patience with this season since none of the guys they have drafted have reached that yet.

Noel will be in his 3rd year next year, Saric will be coming over, and they will have another high lottery pick.

Next year always felt like the year to start judging this whole "process", which is probably a big reason to bring Colangelo on.

I wouldn't be surprised if they decide to actually go out and spend some money this offseason to build around their young core.

3rd year idea is true. But its a problem if that guy is Noel, for one.

It also just keeps the door open for the infinite rebuild. Its gonna only be Okafor's second year. Saric's rookie year. Draft pick's rookie year. Embiid's rookie year...maybe.

By the three year logic, they're still at least 2 or 3 years away from judging their supposed core guys.
