re: Jay-Z to sell his ownership in Nets & become a NBA agent

Every rapper is a "business man", seems like.

Jay-Z's businesses just did better because he is a more famous rapper.

Well he did just recently sign Robinson Cano to his agency, Roc Nation Sports. So I guess he is off to a good start.

Dude, the original arguement was someone saying he would have the EXACT amount of training as any other agent, if he passed the course/test to be an agent.

I say NO WAY*,
And a person graduating law school next month disagrees with you.

Anybody who's read *one* article about Jay-Z (much less any number of books about the business of hip hop, and his role in *that* business climate) would have zero concern not only about his ability to do the job, but do it ridiculously well

/thread

Jay z is just a winner. He would have risen to the top anywhere.

Jay-Z isn't a business man. I'm willing to bet he wouldn't know the first thing about negotiating deals. He is an extremely successful and popular rapper who has made enough money to hire the best and legit business men to do all the real work for him. He just shows up to the GQ and Forbes photo shoots in a fancy suit to receive all of the credit. Only in America.

You know this how?

Specifically, I'm wondering what exactly have you seen or read that you seem to know this information?

guys this has nothing to do with the player contracts, and everything to do with his MASSIVE advertising and branding contacts.

NFLPA investigation

quote:

The NFL Players Association is looking into Roc Nation's recruitment of New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith, NFL.com reported Friday.
Roc Nation was founded by Jay-Z, but he is not yet certified by the players' union to act as an agent. Friends or colleagues who are not certified agents are not allowed to be present during meetings in which an agency is recruiting a player.

Smith's adviser John Thornton told CBS earlier this week, "I was in those meetings, and Jay-Z connected with him on many levels."

Thornton later said he was misquoted.

Smith also posted an Instragram picture of himself with Jay-Z during the recruiting process.

He's not a business man. He's a business, man.

So a guy hires good people to work for him and make him buttloads of money. Sounds like a good businessman to me.
