With 2:03 on the clock in the 4th. Saved that 3 seconds.

It's the smart move.

A play on the other side of the two-minute warning would likely take longer than 3 seconds to run.

You're an idiot if you don't see the reasoning behind that

This. The only time I personally wouldn't do it is if it were on 3rd down for the other team, because it a pass would stop the clock anyways.

It allowed the Cards to draw up that play.

I am ok with this answer

But I want to make sure you are arguing it the right way.

Can you define your usage of the term "run"

I still find it funny that he didn't know NFL games could end in a tie.

Well, it's the truth.

If the Redskins get the Cardinals into a 3rd down situation after using their timeout before the 2-minute warning, there is probably anywhere from 1:57-2:00 left on the clock (wherever it stops for the 2-minute warning). Depending on how long the 2nd down play takes.

If they don't take the timeout before 2nd down, the clock won't stop until after they get the timeout called following the next play. There wouldn't be as much time left.

The fact that the Redskins gave up a long TD the next play has nothing to do with anything.

Oh cool. Im not watching the game and since OP didnt mention any details, I figured they had the ball, so I was a bit intrigued by your phrasing because I assumed the other team had the ball.
