I'd rather him go to the White Sox than the Red Sox.

Figured Shields would get moved. Gotta be a bitch to have the least run support of all starters in the league.

If he hits two salamis in an inning like his old man the Friars might be in business

Yeah I don't think this is the solution to the Sox problems. They were honestly just playing way over their heads and aren't that good. I guess they didn't give up much and got a ton of money back on his deal though so whatever

i also dont get why the padres didnt wait to move him until the deadline when competing teams will be more desperate. just a weird trade for everyone

Well he goes from being an ace to a #4 or 5. The Sox have a strong rotation as Shields is still good for 200 innings and he may put up a sub 4 ERA again.

How much of a disaster has A.J. Preller been so far?

I don't think he has been that bad, I mean he shot for the Moon and came up short. He has turned some of these bad contracts into prospects.

Upton and Myers are playing well... Figure they could move Upton, maybe Norris, Jay, and maybe Kemp around the deadline

really bad. Shitty trades. Getting older through trades and fa. Being buyers at the deadline last year when they had absolutely no shot. He fooled everyone for a while though. People confused action for progress when he took over.

Until they get moved. The Padres always seem to be moving everybody. From the beginning when Preller took over they just don't seem to have a plan. From the flurry of moves early on in his tenure, to basically saying "oops" midway through last season, to dealing Shields now, they just seem to be a mess.
