Is they key to beating Oregon to have time to prepare?
Posted by Cold Cous Cous on 10/7/11 at 9:49 am00
In the Chip Kelly era the Ducks are 25-5. Of those five losses, two were in the first game of the year - 2009 to Boise St, 2011 to LSU. Both of those teams had the whole offseason to get ready for the Oregon scheme. Another two losses were in bowl games, to Ohio State and Auburn. Those teams didn't have an offseason to prepare, but they had a good month. During that entire stretch, the only team who has beaten Oregon without having an extended preparation period is 09 Stanford, who won a shootout 51-42.

No, they key is being more talented. LSU, Alabama would all be 25-5 or better with Oregon's schedule.

the key is to just not suck at the important positions on D

the key is Oregon only played good teams at the beginning and end of their schedule

Teams that play assignment football (for 4 quarters) has a chance of beating them.

The key is having time to prepare, I wouldn't wanna be playing Oregon after the Florida game or anything....they may have outscored us

Basically that article outlines that they destroy PAC 12 competition but get destroyed any time they play a legit top 10 team.

Just like Triple Option teams in today's game, it's such a change up from what you typically prepare for on a week-to-week basis, it's really hard to be ready in that timeframe.
It's not impossible, but it's quite different.

Haven't seen anyone else mention it but the true key to beating an offense like the one Oregon runs is the ability to get vertical penetration with your four DLmen. Most of their plays start horizontal then explode so if you can eliminate the time they have to look for the lane they take a lot of negative yardage plays... We saw that in the Auburn and LSU games.

All about having a good d-line.

quote:Yep, Oregon is not a great team this year. If your team can man up and punch their Oline in the mouth then it's game over.

They are as good as they've been the last few years, its just a gimmick offense that takes time to get used to

I would say more talented on the defensive line (speed and size).

I don't know about that. LSU had some rough years in 2008 and 2009.

I really don't understand the gimmick offense thing. The game is slowly adjusting to this. People probably thought that the first time teams started utilizing a spread attack was gimmicky.
The offense plays to our strengths. We are loaded at the skill positions with small, shifty, fast players. Our offensive line is a little undersized. We play to our strengths. What do you think we should do, play old school Nebraska style football out of the power-i?
