Is the fullback virtually dead and not coming back in the near term?

What I am asking is, is that type of offense fundamentally weaker than the single back?

Usually just a huge lineman or TE in the Pac-12 now

No because the trend is starting to swing back to using them again.

It may not be the traditional I formation Look at Auburn Ohio St and Ole Miss as examples

Not when your head coach runs a FB dive on 3rd and 5 in the national championship game

H-Back is a FB in reality. Plus teams are just lining these guys up different.

I mean Walsh at Stanford would line up a Guard off the line to help him pull.

I think of an H back as similar to a fullback but smaller, not as good of a blocker but better with running the ball and catching the ball.

The first team using a H Back I remember was Washington Redskins.

They would be put in motion to help seal or arc block on zone or sweeps.

Most H Backs are generally TE that are to slow to outrun but not big enough to be a OL.

Depends on team also, you can call them whatever you want.

H-Backs are usually short TEs or bigger RBs that can catch and don't mind not carrying the ball much

i mean a 2 TE set and a 1TE/1FB I-form are similar in terms of personnel, just not execution, b/c the 2 TE team has spread out the D horizontally

FB/I-form are used typically to put more pressure on the middle of the D. THAT is the philosophical issue.

LSU centers their offensive scheme around dump passes to a slow white guy.

Not dead! Offers an extra blocker and an athletic fullback can move to HB, etc and block anyone, get into routes, help in play-action, etc! Most college and pro teams line-up in 21 personnel often!

The New England Patriots just dominated one of the better defenses in the NFL (Cincinnati Bengals) with a Fullback. They ran a true I-form more than a few times and had offset FB formations and had him kickout DTs with great success.

Offenses go in waves.
