i remember how great it was before the BCS era when you had the big bowls on the holidays when you were off work.

then the bcs came and they started stretching the games out over the week on work nites. it sucks when your team is playing it's bowl on a work nite, like this year on a Tuesday.

now they have the most meaningful games on new year's eve and Monday nite.

you can't have any kind of party atmosphere on a week nite when you have to stay up late and get up early the next morning to go to work.

quite frankly, it sucks and takes away a lot of excitement and enjoyment.

it could be great with a 6 team playoff. 1 & 2 get a bye - start the playoff with 2games on the Saturday before Christmas. the next 2 games the Saturday around Christmas and the championship on new year's day. you could fit in a lot of the crappier games around these games, and you could have some of the big bowls on new year's leading up to the championship.

of course we're going to continue to get the same crappy schedule.

Mostly I would just love to have it on a night that most people are off the next day. I did not even bother to watch it the past few years. 4 o'clock comes early and unless my team is in it Im not going to subject myself to the pain of a late night to watch. Maybe someone could shed some light on this but Ive never understood why they cannot schedule games like this (Superbowl, national chapionship, etc..) for times that most people are off the next day.

ETA. I understand not everybody has the same schedule but a large potion of the working population DO work mondays and tuesdays. It just seems odd that with the power the networks have that they wouldnt schedule these on days that viewership could be maximized

Playoffs will inevitably wreck the other bowls, which are now mostly irrelevant.

It's only a matter of time--ten team playoff, two "play-in" games to make a field of eight.

The Pandora's Box has been opened with a four team playoff and there is now no closing it--which I think is a good thing.

This, I watched the first half and then had to catch the early am news/sportscenter for the final. Same goes for Super Bowl Sunday.

I did the same but at least with the Super Bowl it starts before 7:30. That's ridiculous

I think the stubbornness of keeping it Monday at 830pmmeastsrn is the problem. One team is in central time zone, one team was eastern time zone. Many on the west coast are bitter cause nobody on that side of the country is in the game. So your waiting until 830 eastern on a Monday for the title game so the majority of the people on the west coast can skip watching it? Either make the title game 5pm Eastern on a Sunday or make it a Saturday game. I think having it as a Saturday game makes more sense. That way you don't conflict with the NFL.

worse if it is during the day on a work day

didn't they use to play all the games at night?

Some people don't take the whole week off between Christmas and New Years

You are thinking of the best nights to have a house party to watch the games, but viewers are maximized when the most people are home with the TV on. That's why Friday and Saturday aren't the chosen nights for huge television events.

It's a legit gripe for fans about what time the game starts. There's got to be an underlying reason related to ratings. Maybe the first hour is the most important, so it's put in the sweet spot for the most viewers. But I'm not sure.

The NYE games weren't a huge success this year, but at least they'll be on Saturday and Sunday (with a Monday holiday) the next two years.

Today we have 42 bowl games, some being played by teams with losing records. Reward for a good season???

How about giving out participation trophies?

Sooner or later the sponsors are going to realize the folks that they trying to sell their products to - have to get up and go to work the next day.

Playing the 2 biggest games of the season on New Year's Eve was a bad idea. I said so from the beginning, as did many others, and the TV ratings bore this out. Kinda like Ice-T, the committee played itself by doing this...so what do the geniuses do? They make sure the playoff games are on NYE for 5 of the next 7 years

The BCS system was fine.

The college football regular season is better and more important than the bowl season, which is what makes college football the best.

Only problem there is the way the bowl system is set-up now, the championship game is being played the same weekend of the NFL Wild Card games. The NFL already has Saturday night & Sunday afternoon locked up for there late games; so NCAA pushes their championship back to a Monday. And, if they played it on the Friday night before the playoffs, the story lines would stop by lunch time Saturday bc all the sports outlets would change their focus to the playoff games.
