I thought he was phenomenal, but never got the publicity of other greats. . .even in his own era. Perhaps it was his lack of scoring. Maybe it was playing in an era with Stockton, Nash, Kidd, and Payton.

I remember when the Bulls decided the only way to stop the Reggie Miller Pacers, was to put their best defender (Pippen) on Jackson instead of Miller.

Thoughts?

He was good, but I thought he was appreciated for his skill level. He wasn't a HOF'r in my opinion. I thought he always got his due respect.

Dude was supposedly a terrible teammates. There's a reason he bounced around so much.

The Knicks should have never traded him.

If that is true, which I doubt, it would explain him getting axed from GS after 3 seasons as head coach.

His backing players down at half court was nauseating. I hated him strictly for that.

Pippen was more of a help defender; that's why he covered Jackson. Pippen was a good man to man defender, but he was far more useful in a help role. That's very common for good defenders with long arms.

I liked his FT routine at St. John's.

I do not consider him to be underrated.

On the NBA all-defensive team 12 of 17 years. In a man defense only era.

come on, man.

He got axed from GS because he refused to hire good assistants. He was threatened by coaches who were smarter than him (a.k.a. everybody).

There's a disconnect somewhere for me with the Pels defensive coach that they are all raving about. If he was fired for not hiring good assistants when did Erman become known as this bad arse coach? Obv GS management didn't feel that way.

And damn, you look at every great coach in the history of sport. Name one that didn't have some of the best assistants, some of who you could argue were better than the head coach.
