Is Les Miles grossly underrated?

He may make some tactical errors here and there, but the players LOVE playing for this guy... I think his persona and character just genuinely have a positive impact on the team which is why LSU is consistently good. I think his "nice guy" personality actually inspires the teams to play hard for him.

This guy gets a lot out of his teams... but I think he makes boneheaded playcall decisions here and there. "The Mad Hatter"

He has won a national championship, and made it to another national championship... I don't think it's fair to say he just inherited a good situation from Saban, although there's some truth to that.

He's not underrated. But some people are a bit hard on him. If he would just change the damn offense he wouldn't have 1/10 of the haters. He brings in amazing talent. LSU produces wonderful defenses. And the best coach of all time is in his division. He's doing well everything considered. If he'd go a different direction with the offense I think he'd have more success and less heat.

It's funny they call him the mad hatter when Lsu has the most basic offense in the country.

Miles should hire the Ole Ball Coach to coach the QB's and call the plays.

Miles can recruit and he's a wonderful person. The Ole Ball Coach is getting long in the tooth to be HC will retire soon, but he would be a great QB coach and play caller.

I'm tired of hearing Les is a wonderful person. Do you know him personally? Are you his close friend? If not, you have no idea whatsoever what type of person he is behind closed doors.

I love LSU and I love college football, but I hate watching LSU play. They are just not fun to watch. I get that they win, but they are supposed to. They are favored pretty much every game. He just doesn't upset anyone that often and he loses games he shouldn't. Honestly, I think he is a bit overrated. But I'm glad he's still here. That buyout would have been stupid and he deserved another year to get it straight or go out with a bang..

He's a good recruiter. I'm not sure if he's better than OK at any other part of being a coach. Hard to call that underrated.

Les Miles needs someone else to do the Xs and Os

Saban is a great motivator and a great tactician, although he's had some blunders (blown 24-0 lead, 2013 Auburn game)

Miles is a great motivator but is inept as far as playcalling.

I don't even know if he calls the plays or does this or what... Someone will have to cue me in.

You do realize this is because of LSU's continued success under Miles, too, right?

IMO, we have become spoiled with having a constant contender under Les. Honestly, we don't appreciate him that much because of the bama success. Saban built something, but Miles has maintained it. Many coaches that took over top tier programs haven't been able too (Strong,Muschamp). Just take a look at Nebraska and tell me they don't appreciate Pelini now.

What player wouldn't want to play for a guy that lets you fail 10+ drug tests before you get suspended or hey, you just kicked a man in the head while he's down lets have a team vote to see what your peers think.

I don't get why people don't like the offense. It's how old school football is played.

If you can pound them all game with fresh legs all game you are going to beat them. Plain and simple.

All you need is 3.33 yards a down for this to work. Just 3.33 yards for 3 downs, then you have a first. You can put some passes in the mix too.

He recruited and started Jordan Jefferson for years. An underrated coach doesn't do that.

He also jumped on UF by 3-4 TD's in 2011 then started milking the clock with still half of the 2nd qtr left to play, not to mention the entire second half.
