To make the move from FCS, where it has made the national quarterfinals the last two years, Coastal Carolina is expected to announce stadium upgrades and expansion. Its current stadium seats just 9,000.

On July 27, 2012, then-Athletics Director Sam Baker resigned. Baker was an ardent supporter of remaining in the FCS despite university president Brooks Keel's proclamation, mainly due to the financial ramifications of moving to a higher level. On November 12, 2012, President Keel named Tom Kleinlein as athletics director.[9] On March 27, 2013, Georgia Southern announced its move to the Sun Belt Conference on July 1, 2014, becoming bowl-eligible in 2015. In the 2013 season, Georgia Southern's football schedule remained the same, but it was ineligible for the Southern Conference title as well as the FCS playoffs. The university paid the Southern Conference $600,000 in exit fees.[10]

I am going to guess that they are not eligible for the FCS playoffs.

There is internet rumors (so take it for worth its worth) that teh Big Sky conference is seriously considering upgrading to FBS. The # of FBS teams needs to expand to fill all the damn bowl games that we have now, but I don't know if it is a good idea or not. However, I wonder what IDaho would do if the Big Sky moved up and who the SBC would replace them with?

I'm still confused how that Idaho community college is eligible for the FBS.

FBS is like Bama, LSU, etc.

FCS is like North Dakota State, Southeastern LA, McNeese St, etc.

There is a good reason why roughly half of the top tier college football programs moved to 1-AA back in '78. It is one thing to be... say... Illinois State facing a schedule of maybe one game against a Big 10 opponent for a fat paycheck and then going up against Southern Illinois and Eastern Illinois. You can be competitive in most of the games you play.

Now, if you build a dynasty that puts together big winning seasons year after year and you have the fan base to support the move then you can move up a notch if someone like the Sunbelt, the MAC, or C-USA is looking.

The problem the Big Sky is looking at is that the best FCS teams in their region would be hoping for a shot at the MWC (now that the WAC is gone) rather then moving up in one big block to try and compete with the MWC.

I support this just b/c I want to see more of Montana's stadium during November games.

As for Idaho, I would think they would want to join the Big Sky along w/New Mexico State over staying in the Sun Belt. There should be room b/c I doubt every school currently in the conference would move up.

Hell, maybe the Pac12 eventually decides it can use Hawaii as a gateway to Asian countries and/or adds UNLV b/c it wants it's championship game to be in Vegas opening a spot or two in the MWC. Boise might even still have an outside shot at the Big 12 depending on how desperate things get there.

I could also see the Big Sky, Liberty, JMU, CCU, etc wanting to move up to keep the $$$ from playing P5 teams. The BIG has already ended scheduling FCS teams and the other confereces will probably follow in a few years.
