I could envision a scenario, with HOF voters being who they are, that Chipper is in the same 70-75% range as Vlad was in his first year.

No, Jim Thome will be the guy who will be in the 70-75% range. Chipper will be easily be a first-ballot HOFer.

There's also the fact that outfielders are a dime a dozen and shortstops, that weren't automatic outs

He was a .260 career hitter who had 28 career HRs and averaged around 40 RBI per year.

Yes, and plus he has a child with a Waffle House waitress, he's the ultimate southerner.

He should be and he will be. No doubt about it. How is this even a question?

Ask this question to anyone who played with him, against him, covered baseball, or worked in baseball and they will laugh in your face.

It isn't a question of it's possible or should he be...

It's the baseball HOF.

Chipper is a 2nd tier guy (maybe 3rd) and that's not even debatable.

He's not DiMaggio, Mays, Mantle.

He's not Jack Schmidt, Molitor, Henderson.

Chipper might get elected 1st ballot but he's not going to be remembered as tier 1.

And there are some tier 1 guys who didn't get elected first ballot.

Cy Young
DiMaggio

I mean if you are fielding an All-Time team does Chipper make the the 1st team? No.

Does he make the 2nd team? No.

Does he make the 3rd team? No.

When does a supposed 1st ballot make the all-time team?

The 8th team? Is that still 1st ballot worthy?

I feel like this was discussed earlier in the thread with someone. It was pointed out a number of times that there were valid reasons they didn't get in on their "first ballot". (Dimaggio's first ballot was a few years before he retired) You should really read the first page.

He's better than Paul Molitor.

Jesus Christ. Only 12 men in the entire Hall of Fame have a 300/400/500 slash line. Chipper will make it 13 next year.

Chipper represented everything great about baseball. It's shameful more ballplayers aren't like him because of all the political correctness.

The fact that he included Paul Molitor makes me think he is trolling. He did a good job there for a little while.
