Chris Heston became the 33rd pitcher, including the Astros & Phillies complete games, to throw a no-hitter in the past 10 years. Is it really that impressive in today's game?

Just last season there was 5 no-hitters and 6 in 2010. I think it's a good moment in baseball but I don't find it as impressive as it's made out to be.

A few names of guys who have accomplish this feat. Henderson Alaverez, Homer Bailey, Philip Humber, Ervin Santana, Matt Garza, Dallas Braden, Mark Buehrle, Anibal Sanchez, and let's not forget Edwin Jackson

What would the equivalent of it be in the NFL or NBA?

33 have happened out of over 10*162*30 chances in last decade. So it happens about .001% of the time in sports.

That's impressive to me.

probably whatever feat happens .001% of the time

It has happened roughly every 1,500 games pitched over the past decade. Even with the increased frequency over the past decade, that is pretty impressive.

There are 2430 games a year. Each game has two chances at a no hitter. So 4860 chances a seasons. 5 in one season? That's .001%. So yeah it's kind of impressive, shite the frick up.

Damn beaten to it

There are only 2,430 games each regular season, not 4,860. 15 games x 162 = 2,430.

However, there are 4,860 games pitched, so I guess your post above was sort of right.

281 no hitters in over 300,000 games played isn't impressive?

Even so, it's becoming more common today. You see pitchers bring no-hitters all the time into the 7th and 8th innings to have them fail.

I find hitting for the cycle probably a bit more impressive in baseball as an individual feat. Although that's about the same percentage.

That is still 4,860 chances for one to be thrown.

Hitting for the cycle has always been more rare than a no hitter it's not anything new.

 Triple Double?

Oscar Robertson averaged a triple double for an entire season one year.

If a pitcher threw a no hitter every game for an entire season, they'd rename Major League Baseball after him.
