IOWA CITY, Iowa - An injury default in the dual's final bout, gave NC State a 21-17 road win at No. 2 Iowa in the NWCA National Duals Championships Series. A close dual that saw five lead changes came down to the final bout once again.
The Wolfpack completes its dual season with a 23-1 mark with wins at #2 Iowa, at #4 Oklahoma State and vs. #5 Missouri.
NC State became the first ACC team ever to defeat Iowa, as the Hawkeyes were 12-0 against the conference. NC State also accomplished the same feat at Oklahoma State, as the 19-15 win in December was the first for the ACC over the Cowboys.

No. 1 Nick Gwiazdowski completed his NC State dual career a perfect 55-0 in duals, as he earned an injury default in the final match, giving NC State the 21-17 win.

Up Next: NC State will next compete at the ACC Championship on March 6 at Virginia.
As a lifelong fan of collegiate wrestling, I cant even begin to pretend like how much this means to me. All my hard work is finally paying off though.

Remember when AC Slater got a scholarship offer to wrestle at Iowa but his dad wanted him to go to West Point?

Dumb questions, but is the injury default when your opponent is injured?
How many point is that?

First congrats to NC State, as the ACC has gotten really strong at wrestling.
But it was total crap that NC State got to wrestle Iowa. Va Tech beat NC State at NC State and should have been going to Iowa, but Brands pulled a hissy fit and did not want to wrestle the Hokies. Screw Iowa.
VT put a good beating on Michigan 24-11.

Collegiate wrestling should be a training ground for pro wrestling. People will get more excited about Alabama v. Auburn in a WWE style event. You can faces and heels and end all events with a tie like Bama wins 3 matches and Auburn wins 3 matches or you can work it so one team wins at home.
Plus you can have women's wrestling also which would be cool.

Yes. If your opponent can't continue during the match, you win by injury default.

6 points.

Our loss to Iowa St was when we were missing a lot of our folks.
But I am going with Dresser on him knowing what Brands was doing behind the scenes. (yes, we have a lot of hatred for that man at VT)

Cool response. My cousin used to wrestle for Va Tech under Brands. Why didn't Brands want to wrestle Va Tech?

The way he left, he tried to bring the folks he redshirted at VT to Iowa with him immediately when he left. That led to a lot of bad blood, and Dresser-Brands has one of those Iowa macho things I have no clue about.

Gotcha. Yeah, Brands tried to bring my cousin to Iowa too. He wrestled his True Fr. year under Brands and then Brands left before his So. Year.
Has Brands done well at Iowa? I don't follow college wrestling.

So would Iowa have won otherwise, or just that 6 points could have gone either way?

Dual Meet Team Scoring
Fall, Forfeit, Default, Disqualification - 6 team points
Technical Fall (getting ahead of your opponent by 15 points ends the match) - 5 team points
Major Decision (winning the match by 8 - 14 points) - 4 team points
Decision (winning the match by fewer than 8 points) - 3 team points
State was down 17-15. All we needed was a decision from Nick. He probably wouldve gotten the 6 points from a fall anyway. Hes the best collegiate wrestler.

That's a huge win for the Wolfpack, congrats! Side note: did you like the format, where the B1G teams hosted the other conferences? What's the word from ACC fans reference traveling to a B1G team every year?

Yeah, he won 3 National Championships at Iowa in 08, 09, and 2010. Problem is Cael Sanderson set up shop at Penn State and turned them into a juggernaut and won the next 4 straight after that. We still finish top 5 every year.
Last year Iowa won the Big Ten Tournament but finished runner up at the NCAA after Ohio State's guys must've finished a cycle at the right time and had an insane showing.
Anyway, sounds like NC State has a good squad this year. No shame here, props to them.
