Could maybe see going to 6...champion of each P5 and one wild card. Top 2 get byes.
ETA: as for OP, I have no clue and it would be a bitch to sort out. It would depend on how much you want to penalize conference game losers vs reward teams who were sitting at home.

I'd go to a 11 game season which allows schools to drop the cupcake bullshite. Then go with 8 teams and the extra week for the playoff. Also.....all conferences play a championship game or none do.

We'd all like to do that but they're going to be in the 4 team playoff and they'd definitely be in an 8.
