I thought the Super Bowl officiating was pretty solid

They swallowed the whistles, and let them play. The Seahawks receiver (forgot who) that tripped was the one major missed call that I could remember. I also thought they missed a few false starts in the first half. They let them play, and it was a much better product than calling holding or pass interference every other play.

Thoughts?

The trip and the running into the kicker when it should have been roughing were the only questionable calls. Basically evened out.

It shouldn't have been roughing. They got that call correct.

Good call. Forgot all about that.

Anytime you do not notice the refs, they did a good job.

Hitting the plant leg is roughing

Here's the rule:
Item 1: Roughing the kicker. It is a foul for roughing the kicker if a defensive player:
(a) contacts the plant leg of the kicker while his kicking leg is still in the air;

Yeah, I agree with that. The refs didn't get in the way

By rule, I thought it was? At least the announcers said so.

Touching the plant leg does not automatically make it roughing

Mike Pereira even said that last night.

Then Pereira tweeted this out later:

Just went back on my non-Tivo TV. It should have been roughing. There was contact on the knee. It was enough.

So he changed his mind, but just making contact with the leg isn't enough.

I can't stand the Seahawks. I'm glad the Patriots won.

Nice try.

I thought so too, but Mike Pereira said that isn't the case.

Wrong. Rush man ran thru the "plant foot" of the punter . That is automatic 15 yarder. They were all over that on radio broadcast I was listening to ... just sayin' . Their "ref consultant" said same thing ... again , just sayin' since i was listening on radio and didn't "see" it m'self ... but they read out the rule ...

They haven't called it like that all year though.

And the officiating was great. I'd much rather them miss a call than just call some ticky tack BS penalty

I agree, I don't think there were any bad calls. Some missed calls like the missed PI and two non-calls on intentional grounding by both teams.

Agreed. Maybe the roughing the punter was a pretty big miss and I didn't get a great view of the alleged trip by the pats DB who fell down on coverage but they let these guys play and it was a great game.

My favorite part was that the head official only ejected the instigator of that fight.

Also, did anyone notice has has only been in the league six years? Pretty impressive.
