Bill Russell
Wilt Chamberlain
Nate Thurmond
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Moses Malone
Robert Parrish
Shaquille O'Neal
David Robinson
Hakeem Olajuwon
Patrick Ewing
Tim Duncan
Bob Lanier
Ralph Sampson
Dan Issel
Walt Bellamy
Artis Gilmore
I'd definitely build my team around any of those guys before Dwight Howard. And there are several others I'd have to think long and hard about like Bill Walton, Dave Cowens, Vlade Divac and Willis Reed.

You can't even think about comparing Ewing and Howard. Ewing is on another level. Howard being the best center in the league doesn't mean much because center has been the weakest position in the NBA for the past 10 years. Howard wouldn't have even been in the running during the Ewing, Hakeem, Shaq years.

Ewing is on another level.
Ewing was a boss on the blocks. His fade away & jumper from the top of the key was lethal. Plus the son of bitch was a good free throw shooter unlike Howard. Teams had actually game plan to stop Ewing, Howard not so much.

YOU would think blocks is end all be all for defense. Must be a davis Pels fan
You'd be all over his nuts if he was a rocket.
Or hell if he was on any team besides the pels.

You saying howard was the best center in the league shows how truly fricking retarded you are..hahaha
I think it's stupid to act like injuries aren't the reason that he's been . That's just outrageous. Before the season, he was pretty much considered the consensus number one center in the league. He has averaged a double-double every single year of his career. Deandre Jordan's done it twice. Cousins has done it 3/5 seasons, but he averaged 9.9 one year so I'll give him 4/5. Dwight's done it every single season, including this season but he only played 41 games.
I know that everyone thinks that their opinion on a player as a person translates to their actual play, but the stats say otherwise. This year, he wasn't the best center in the league, but he played 41 games. Let's not act like he played and was completely outclassed. He came back from a knee injury at the end of the season. At his size, that's not an easy injury to come back from.

Dwight's the first great center of the pick and roll era of basketball. People complain about his post game, but never give him credit for being a devastating pick and roll finisher and being one of the best defensive centers in basketball. When healthy, I'd take him before any center except Marc Gasol.
As an aside, are there any superstars that people like? shite, if you judged by here, you would swear that all these players sucked.

Right now, Marc gasoline, boogie cousins and deandre Jordan were better centers this year

And look at the other centers Ewing was playing against compared to Howard... Howard would get destroyed in the late 80's and 90's. He not near tough enough........

Nothing like a good rocketard melt. Great thread.

Those numbers aren't even correct....
Advanced stats say:
PER- both at 22.0
VORP - Ewing
WS - Howard
WS/48 - Howard
OBPM - slightly to Ewing
DBPM- slightly to Howard
Howard #9 all time
Personally I favor Yao but Dwight's place in history can't be ignored.
Ewing and Howard are very close could go either way Howard gets the nod on rebounding, athleticism, and dominating the paint. Ewing was a better shooter and passer.
