I don't like this rule in golf, re: order of play.

“After the competitors have started play of the hole, the ball farthest from the hole is played first. If two or more balls are equidistant from the hole or their positions relative to the hole are not determinable, the ball to be played first should be decided by lot.”
So Ball A (even thought Ball A is on the green) is up then Ball B followed by Ball C.
I think everyone off the green should go first and once everyone is on the green the playing order is reestablished by furthest out first.

We've always played off the green goes first, then once everyone is on the green it goes back to furthest out.

I always thought this was how it was done.

So on the first tee agree to play ready golf. Problem solved.

Me too until I got told otherwise this weekend and had to look up the rule. (I chipped first even though I was closer to the green thus technically being out of turn).
After I was told otherwise I made a double bogey on the next hole so now I hate the rule.

I usually do this.

Rule is furthest from the hole goes first...in reality in non tourney golf the best policy is ready golf. Speeds up pace of play.

I agree. If you're playing on the PGA Tour it's the ball furthest out. If you're playing a Saturday morning round with your buddies, it's ready golf.

Why?
If you're out you are out.
Regardless which club you have.
Needing the pin in or out is the biggest decider though.

add this to the list of shite that simply does not matter

Ball B should go last cause A and C gonna enjoy the shite out of the B show when he tries to get out that bunker.

Ready golf trumps all rules unless you are playing in an official golf tournament.

you have to on a regular Saturday IMO.

We always play ready golf. If I'm on the green 4 feet from the hole and my partner has a 20 yard walk to his ball that's 40 feet from the hole, I'm taking the put and then tending the flag when he arrives. It really speeds things up.

The only time I've ever followed this rule is during match play.

Same here. That's the only time it actually matters.

We play ready golf. Unless playing standing in front of someone, hit the damn ball.
Nothing worse than a group of 4 wannabes lining up each of their shots one at a time and reading them like it's the masters
