He turned down a 4yr/$52M extension in October, either because

1) he's crazy
2) had an inflated view of his skill set
3) knew rich Paul would take care of him
4) or knew love would get hurt just in time for him to captialze

Basically, he was right about all of these points

Now the question is, how much $ do you give to a 6'8 250 undersized PF (long arms though) that has one distinguishable skill---tenacious rebounding, especially on the offensive glass. He can also switch out on 2,3,4, and 5 men well enough to stay on the floor.

That's also the thing about Lebron, he gets guys paid because he highlights a guy's best skill and makes guys play to their strength.

Before Lebron, TT was an undersized PF that couldn't stretch the floor. He was so desperate and on the verge of being a bust that he switch shooting hands.

I'm going to assume it has to deal with the new TV money coming in and the cap exploding.

While we are at it, how much will it frick up the roster if/when they pay him big? I have the same question with Draymond and the Warriors.

It shouldn't mess them up at all with the new cap numbers in 2016. What appears to be overpaying today will look like a bargain next year.

They'll "overpay" him but I fully expect them to trade IGGY this summer. Justin holiday looks like he has a future as a solid wing player and they have james mcadoo and Shaun Livingston who isn't as good of a defender but he is just as capable of an offensive player.

They also have to resign/pay Barnes and Curry under the new CBA when IGGY will still be under contract I believe (I think he got 4yrs/$48M guaranteed.

I don't think another team would give him more than 10 mil per, but he shares an agent with LeBron so they will probably pull a stupid move and give him 15 mil to come off of the bench.

Depends on Love. If Love walks, which I expect to be a mutual decision, then not at all. I think a big portion of not extending last year was due to uncertainty of where he would be playing. At the time it was him, Love, and Varajeo as the main frontcourt. He probably didn't want to sign a 4 year extension and end up traded to the Bobcats. Let Love walk, sign Thompson, and get a decent stretch 4 to come off the bench.

People forget the Cavs will have a lot of play this offseason with Haywood's expiring contract. Channing Frye and the Magic were listed as a possible trade partner as the Cavs can take on his 4 year 32 million deal and the Magic could immediately cut Haywood saving 10 million on the cap. Two deep would be:

Mozgov - Varajeo
Thompson - Frye
LeBron - Who Cares
Smith - Shumpert
Irving - Delladova

Shumpert is the big question mark. He's Restricted, but some team could go nuts looking for the next great 3 and D player. Gordon Hayward making so damn much certainly didn't help the market here. Delladova is a RFA as well, but should be easily affordable.

Cavs will probably overpay to keep Tristan, but I doubt Gilbert is going to care about paying the luxury tax.

People will laugh at TT's contract in a few years IMO

He's a role player who is best served staying with Lebron

LeBron James is an interesting teammate. He seems to improve the stock of every role player and hurt the stock of every star (Kyrie being the exception).
