How much are tickets to the tourney? I'm guessing hotel prices go way up.
Anyone been? What's a ballpark range of what a trip would cost?

Depends.
I have gone with my father to the Wednesday practice round via the 1018 Club. They set you up with tickets and hospitality package. It's great.
Eta: I want to say it was $1500 per person, but I'm not totally sure.

If that is a 4 day badge for 1500 that is a steal.
Prices can vary a lot based on who is competing and whether you're looking for specific days or badges for the week. During the height of the Tiger era badges for the week were definitely in the thousands at times. I remember my first tournament, coming out after Saturday (we had to give the badges back to Coke) and being offered 1200 for my single badge for the Sunday round.
Last time I went for the tournament I went with Berckman's Place badges, and that is a different deal altogether.

I went in 2011 for the total cost of $0. My brother-in-law ' s company has a vendor who gives him two 4 round badges, complimentary stay in a private home, and free meals for the tourney every year. I went with him and it was one of the top 5 experiences of my life.
I did eat about 457 egg salad sandwiches @ $1.50 per, so I guess it wasn't totally free

You probably had no problem clearing out some space in the gallery

I always thought it was cool how AN loses money on concessions because they want their patrons to have a good time. I think it's like 2$ for a beer

If you get tickets in the lottery, it's $65 for a practice round, $100 for a tournament day. A four day badge runs $325 (which you're definitely not getting for that price).

Beer is $3.50 for regular, $5 for premium. Still a good deal.
