Between head injuries which will affect all levels of football, the new cost of attendance/player payment battles and the sudden realization of athletes that they can demand basically anything by refusing to play.

I think we may be seeing the crest of collage athletics. I see a day where CFB is played by actual normal student athletes and players wit pro-prospects playing in a minor league system.

I think the fall will come faster than people think.

ETA: Not to mention that despite incredibly strong ticket sales, fewer people are attending games. I can't see the demand for tickets staying that high if nobody actually wants to go to the games.

College football isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

But, they do need to lower the costs of tickets because that is getting ridiculous.

So, what you're saying is that for the vast majority of college football teams, there will be no change?

You seem to think college football is about football. It's about rivalry and revelry set to a schedule we've grown accustomed to.

A minor league system not affiliated with any university. In case you haven't noticed, 80% of the mediocre players in CFB think they are going pro. I expect a lot of them would forgo college to play semi-pro ball.

a lot of bowl games are noticeably lacking in attendance. But they have too many bowl games now so the allure just isn't the same anymore I guess?

some Bowl games will always have top notch attendance though... like the Rose Bowl.

The ability for fans that come to tailgate and stay outside the stadiums to watch the game is hurting attendance. With almost every game on tv fans would rather just sit at home and watch football on the 60" ths will the ability to switch to 5-5 different games all day. Plus they have other reasons to stat at home comfort wise.

Even regular season. I am a season ticket holder but I always consider giving up my tix because 90% of the time I could get better ones cheaper outside of the stadium.

You're not getting my point. What you are really talking about is only a fraction of Power 5 teams... not all of college football (not even all Power 5 teams). And yes, your 80% number is laughable.

The current system will not survive another 20 years.

Paying athletes would not work for the great majority of schools.

The solution is for thugabes to play in NFL-subsidized minor leagues, and for college athletics to be for college students, as was originally intended.

I've been saying for years that CFB would radically change only when when the SJWs discovered it. I want my damn cookie.

To many bowl games are killing the game as well. I remember when they had like 10-12 bowls the much vs. Ohio state game meant the winner went to the rose bowl and the loser went home. The regular season means very little to teams not in the top 15.

I am interested to see what that issue is going forward. I don't think there was anywhere near enough attention to it int he past, but moving forward i think it will be less of an issue with better protocols, helmets and general exposure of the need to protect players heads.

I've noticed that some of these newly expanded stadiums have trouble filling up too. I'm not talking about for a big primetime showdown between top ranked teams.

but there have been plenty of nationally televised games where there are empty seats in the upper decks. You can't miss them when they do a stadium shot before or during the game.

Yea I'm sure they'll get right on that when they sell out every game the way it is.

If they start paying players, it dies that instant.

No helmet can fully protect a person from having brain damage. I think the only thing that comes out of this is less middle and upper class players, in addition to be more paperwork players will sign acknowledging they are opening themselves to brain damage and they will play at their own risk. Hell, what is the alternative? Soccer? They have as much issues with injuries and trauma as football.

With all the money the NFL has, I'm still shocked a minor league of football hasn't been developed. They spend more money in Europe than in supporting lower levels of football in US. But I guess if NFL has a free minor league system which they do, why invest in one.

Similar to NBA, why have a one year rule, just start a minor league and dump the WNBA.

Actually safety is much better than it has been, both in NFL and college with targeting penalties and safety of players.

Cost of tickets does need to come down as well as coaching salaries but it will never happen.

That was a Big 10 rule. Other conferences allowed multiple teams to go to bowl games if invited during that era.

true but the studies at Virginia Tech seem to think the newer ones greatly reduce it.

For all the noise the NFL makes about head injuries, they still let players play in helmets designed decades ago.
