Not just the speech, but the run they had and the famous NBA players they beat.

Just watched the 30 for 30: Survive and Advance and never realized that they defined the term Cinderella Team. Thoughts?

That was one crazy ride, but Valvano was a hell of a bench coach.

No doubt they caught lightning in a bottle.
Even though they were a 6 seed, I believe, you knew by the regional finals they were meant to be. Also, if I recall, it took triple overtime to beat their first round opponent in Pepperdine.

I was just 14 or so, but I still remember that game like it was yesterday.

Before the game, Jimmy V. told an interviewer,"If the game is in the 70s or 80s, they are gonna win, if it's in the 50s, we are gonna win."

54-52

Akeem Olajuwon was beastly. Clyde "The Glide" Drexler. Jesus, what a team Houston had.

Michael Young was a first round pick, too.

Nothing short of incredible. Absolutely incredible. Considering the number of games they had to win against far superior competition, it has to be one of the greatest achievements in all of sports history.

College basketball was so much better back then, when guys played 4 years.

They practically invented hack-a-shag in that final game with their chickenshit fouling. frick that NC State team. It was so ugly that the NCAA changed the rule before the next season.
