Been watching a lot of tennis lately and saw how good she was. Just wondering for the older people on here how good could she have been if not for the stabbing?

My understanding is that she took a stab at becoming great, but due to injuries, her career was cut short.

Her serve was like a sharp knife slicing through flesh.

She was a screamer. I know that's not a stabbing pun, but she was loud.

She was always in Stefi Graff's shadow. She would never have overtaken her even healthy.

I don't know, man. It looked like she was starting to take her over and had beaten her in big matches for a few years before she got shanked. Her total was nine majors. Just spitballing some progression with how she had been winning, I think she would have gotten to about 14. Not GOAT level, but probably top 5-10 ever.

At the time she was stabbed she had won 7 of the last 9 slams she played in, and beat Graf in 3 out of four of them. She was on a roll like Fed in 2003-2006.

She could have definitely gotten at least 5 more during the next 2 year layoff. I don't think she would have won as many as serena or navratalova or everett though.

I don't think she would have reached GOAT level either--partly because she was more interested in showmanship than the actual game.

But she lost a few years of her prime that could have boosted her career accomplishments.
