How did the NY6 allow the Cotton Bowl matchup to happen?

I'm not playing the "Western Michigan doesn't belong" card. I'm talking about how they got a boring-arse matchup between two Great Lakes states schools in Dallas? I mean, this didn't have to happen, right?
I know the Peach and Fiesta are locked in to the semifinals.
The Rose Bowl doesn't care about anyone else. They're getting theirs.
But what about the Orange and Sugar? Couldn't they all work together to ensure that this doesn't happen?
It seemed as easy as swapping Oklahoma and Wisconsin. That way, every game has cross-sectional interest and there's a semi-local team in every game, ensuring local interest and butts in seats. This is like the Virginia Tech/Michigan Sugar Bowl that nobody cared about and I was able to buy end zone tickets for $5 on Stubhub 3 hours before kickoff.

As A fan... The wholething is stupid... its supposed to be New Years day type of football... I want MULTIPLE games to watch.... I know that today its all about ratings... But still...... They should have had the Citrus bowl on at this time as well....

Isn't the Sugar Bowl always Big 12 vs SEC now if it isn't a playoff game?

Do you want Gravy? Because this is how you get Gravy.

Swap Michigan and Wisconsin. Wisconsin/FSU would have been good and UM/WMU would have been a big deal in Michigan, as opposed to this matchup which isn't a big deal anywhere.

Nope. Sugar is locked into a big 12/sec matchup

I hate the new bowl schedule/matchups. I can't keep up with how they match the teams up nowadays.

I just looked. Apparently you're right. I thought the B12 was locked into the Fiesta, but that's old news. I guess the Cotton should have been more proactive and gotten theirs too.
I guess it's pretty smart on the Sugar and Rose's part to guarantee that they're not getting stuck with a MAC or CUSA team ever.

I'm down with that. I figured that Michigan and Western Michigan had played recently and wouldn't be a big deal to them.

The cotton bowl last it's luster when they moved it to Jerry world IMO.

They've played 6 times, none since 2011.

The biggest problem with these games today is that they are having them AFTER the semifinals. It has rendered all these bowls uber anti-climactic. They work as appetizers leading up the playoffs. 2 days after-----

No, the Sugar has always had an SEC team.
In the last 70 years only 3 times (VA Tech all three times) has the Sugar Bowl not featured an SEC team. This year's Cotton Bowl is typical mid 80s Cotton Bowl (Houston vs Boston College).
