It's a shame that Brees will never have a MVP next to his name while lesser quarterbacks will. He had a better completion percentage, more td, less int than Peyton Manning and a passer rating almost 10 points higher and both teams were great 14-2 colts vs 13-3 saints and AFC south isn't any tougher than NFC south

Peyton went 14-0 in games he played with Jim Caldwell as his head coach with a team that would go 2-14 without him 2 years later.

Also, I believe Peyton set a single season record for fourth quarter game winning drives/comebacks that year.

I'd argue that even Favre was better than Peyton that season.

Vote wasn't even close iirc. Sometimes
You can't just look at the numbers.

I can think of one in particular he came up short on.

If the Saints don't drop three in a row Brees would've had a real good shot at it. Also Brees was kinda the new guy to the elite Quarterback club.

I would've given the award to Favre

It's a good thing there aren't or won't be any current lesser qbs currently playing that will have a MVP

The Colts lost two out their last three that year also. I think it was just the Manning brand that did it.

Brees never gets as much credit playing in a smaller market.

So you're saying Ryan -- and for that matter, Cam -- are as good as Brees? I want that in print for the record

The Colts lost their last two with Manning benched.

They went 14-0 in the voting period.

There wasn't really much controversy or doubt at the time.

Forget 2009. Brees got screwed in 2011 when they gave it to Rodgers and his little passer rating. Brees broke 6 NFL records that season, including passing yards and completion percentage.

5 head was always a crowd pleaser, always had first round talent all around him.

Pretty simple.

im a huge brees fan but:

better YPA
better passer rating
better TD%
better INT%

Brees had an elite year, but Rodgers had a year for the ages.

There should have been. Aren't Manning fans the folks that like to belittle "team" accomplishments in the Brady arguments?

Colts were ranked 8th in scoring defense compared to the Saints at 20th.

First round talent like a shitty defense, the worst OLine in the league and Austin Collie as a starting WR.

He better thank his Stars he wasn't cursed with Bill Belichick as his coach and Randy Moss at wideout that year.

Yeah, I wasn't all that ticked that year. If anything it was the horrible losses to the Rams and Bucs that messed everything up. First of all, the Saints probably lost at least a first round bye because of one of those losses and also I'm sure that hurt Drew's chances of a MVP as well.

plus he lost the head-to-head battle with Rodgers in Week 1 that year.

I never got tilted about Manning winning it in '09 cause the Saints were doing things that year that were a total shock to me. IndividuaL awards take a backseat when your team has the chance to do something that hardly anybody thinks is possible.

Manning is a worthy adversary.. I wouldn't trade that year for anything.
