I can remember they came on the scene as a Cinderella years ago out of nowhere. It seems like they have been very good since that year.

being solid in a shite conference and having some surprise runs in the tourney, they started investing in the program. They started bringing in some solid recruits, built a new arena, and then started scheduling some good OOC games. Mark Few has kept them at a near elite level

Really good coach, and school invested in the program. They have been lucky to bring in some big time transfers too

I will agree with most of what has been said here but I disagree it's a shite conference. No the WCC isn't a power 5 organization but it's definitely not the sun belt or some shite like that. St Mary's was ranked all year long and BYU is a solid program. Those schools, along with Gonzaga, make the WCC a high quality mid-major program.

FYI....Mark Few was not the coach when the Gonzaga run started.

UW sucked, Oregon schools sucked, USC sucked, UCLA sucked

Gonzaga hit a sweet spot where they were the only college hoops team on West coast, not name Arizona, that was worth a flip

When gonzaga got big, this was most certainly true.

They are good now, but not during that span

an 18 year sweet spot?

UCLA has made the tournament 14 times with 3 Final Four appearances and Oregon and USC have made the tournament 9 and 8 times respectively in that "sweet spot."

The nature of basketball allows a team to be great with one great player, unlike football or baseball.

Their run started when they had a good big man in casey Calvary.

Dan dickau was an elite point guard, then Morrison led the show as a POY type talent. Since then, they've put pretty much every big man they've had in the NBA.

They've been able to add solid pieces around the good players as well.

They have been around almost twenty years. Feel like their cindarella season was in the late 90's and they have stayed in the picture ever since. I know they have been good at getting players to transfer from schools like Washington go to Gonzaga instead.

They made the tournament in 95 & 99 before Few. The 99' tourney was what put them on the map.

No they didn't.

Their only tournament appearance before 99 was 1995.

Reminds me of a certain baseball program in the late-80s and early-90s.
