How did Bama miss on so many quarterbacks? No transfers are starting

Blake Barnett quit so he could be eligible this year, not starting anyway at ASU.

Cooper Bateman isn't even the backup at Utah.

David Cornwell got a start at Nevada last week and was terrible, not playing today.

All three of these guys were in legitimate discussion to be the starter at some point and I believe Bateman and Barnett did actually start at some point.

How is it possible for arguably the greatest college coach of all time to whiff so horribly at recruiting the most important position?

Posted this on the MSB instead of the SEC rant since they are transfers and that's a trolling cesspool.

maybe they just don't have the same pressure to perform at Bama than they would anywhere else... it's much easier to QB when your roster 1-85 is the best

Saban puckers up buttholes on a historic scale. Same formula can be applied to fg kickers.

Sooooo... sounds like we hit by benching them??? Our backups suck, big deal.

I watch countless nfl teams do it year in and out.

By that logic these guys would flourish in other systems, which isn't happening. The guys that actually play for Alabama tend to be pretty good.

And yet, Bama keeps rolling over the SEC and playing for national titles with whoever their QB is at the time.

I’m not sure they are whiffing. They just don’t need one.

I think it's pretty reasonable to assume he recruits a certain style of QB. They may not be the best, but they are good at what he wants them to do. Hurts and the guy before him (drawing a blank on his name) are the first to have any athletic ability. Most of his QBs have been undersized white guys that can't run. I don't think there is any illusion from saban that he may have the bext Tebow when he's recruiting John Parker Wilson or Greg McElroy.

Talk about taking things out of context. Why point to just the misses? His first 4 years at Alabama he had Wilson and McElroy who he inherited. He recruited McCarron who was a 3 year starter. Had Sims and got Coker and now has Hurts and Tua who could be the real deal. At LSU he inherited Booty and Davey, brought in Mauck who he recruited at MSU and recruited Russell and Flynn.

Pretty damn good track record if you asked me

On the advice of medical staff. People like to forget Brees had a devastating shoulder injury that's why he was available.

He didn't recruit either of those guys both were at Alabama when he was hired.

Dunno, they were pretty highly regarded by not just Alabama, but also by other teams and recruiting gurus. I do know this: If LSU had 'stolen' them from Alabama as recruits , LSU fans would've celebrated like they won a natty. 'Course, even those guys might've been an improvement on the QBs LSU had to deal with.

A top OL as Bama has every year can make an average QB look all world!!

Hurts would be totally ineffective with a crappy OL.

Pretty much every QB would be ineffective with a crappy OL.

Bullshite. Bama's OL was not a top OL each of the last 2 years. There weren't bad but they're not elite like people keep claiming. This year's has potential but they're inconsistent.

None of the coaches at any of those programs belong in the same discussion as Saban. Very good chance they would be much better QBs at this point in their careers had they stayed at Bama.
