How could FBS make a 16 team playoff work?

How do you incorporate the Bowls and ccg? Would the season need to start earlier and moved down to 11 games?

16 is to many. 8 would work with current Big 6 bowl setup.

We have 8 conferences basically. That will ensure all 8 champs get in and ND if they win 9 or more games. That would leave 7 at large bids. Pretty solid to me.

We have 5. 8 would still allow you to include the occasional undefeated non-power 5 team if needed.

I like 8. I think you can find arguments for teams deserving to compete for a championship within the top 8. After that, it gets redundant.

There's no way to do it without either A) having the conference championship games be mandatory and have that be the first round and then playing an on campus game, or B) playing the first two rounds on campus. People just don't have the money for that- no program would show up well to 4 bowl games within a month's time

What about 12 then. Top 4 teams get byes. 1st 2 rounds played at schools, final four play in bowls and title game played at alternating sites.

I think you put 16 teams in and then they play each other in single elimination style. That is how you do it.

In a 12 team tournament, 12 teams play each other.

Top 25 rankings. Break bowls into regions. Use major bowls as a semifinals. 24/25 is a play in game. #1 overall gets a bye. Its not that hard to do.

The purpose of the playoff is to determine #1 not 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15 & 16.

16 is entirely too many. I think it will make it's way to 6-8 eventually.

I think it would be awesome to have 8, the power 5 conference champions and three at large. Winning the conference guarantees you a spot, but if you're still a one loss team you still have a shot.

5 conference champion and 1 at large

Top 2 get a bye

I've gone back/forth between 6-8, but anything more is too many.
