How big of a deal is the Tampa v Miami game being moved?

How big of a deal do you think it is that Tampa now doesn't have a bye? I personally think it's a pretty big deal because the division should be very competitive. Not having that week off in the middle of the season could cost them maybe a game and imo that could be the difference between the playoffs and not. Interested to see what others think.

I'll hang up and listen.

That's 16 weeks in a row they have to play. 17 if they make the wild card. I'd say it's a pretty big deal. NFL likes to talk big about players safety but everything takes a backseat to money.

Yikes, wasn't aware of that. I really think it will cost the Bucs 1-2 games and with MIA going to London as well I'd probably say 2-3

It's bull shite. They're more worried about ensuring full attendance at a game than player safety.

One of the worst deals ever made. You can say it is very much not good.

Guy on the radio here in Lafayette said the same thing yesterday.

And it's the truth. There are a number of stadiums in the south that are not hosting games, including New Orleans which would have been a logical move. But attendance would have been abyssmal.

Hell, what Miami or Tampa fan is even worried about this game right now?

I have Mike Evans in 2 leagues and I'm starting crap in the flex now. I'm pissed.

Also screws up the timetable on the Doug Martin suspension too.

Probably helps the Saints and Bills long-term.

I'll believe they care about player safety when they start drafting smaller, slower players.

Seems like a pretty big deal.

Heard on radio that both teams preferred a neutral site for the bye reason. Never verified bc I don't care.

Saw this article from 2014:
quote:

The effect of bye weeks has been studied before. Bill Barnwell did a good job covering it a couple years ago. He and others found essentially the same thing -- the effect of where a team's bye week falls is essentially nil. Teams perform mildly better during the weeks immediately before and after a bye, but not at a substantial rate. The effect on overall regular season win percentage is all but zero, and actually favors early bye weeks by an insignificant margin.

so, who knows?

It's a huge deal, IIRC The Falcons didn't have a bye until week 11 or so last year. They played the Eagles right before the bye and were literally horrible. Came back from the bye rejuvenated and went on a roll.

I would be shocked if the Bucs didn't suffer bc of this.

Good point.

They will be at a disadvantage, but not a drastic one.

And there was a gap of a few years when there were 31 teams that at least one team drew the short straw and had a bye on week 1 or week 17.

If their coaches aren't total pricks, they'll get a little extra time off after any Thursday night games this year.
