Less than they do than hiring Dave Stewart in the first place

The sad thing is that even if he was pitching how he did last year, it would still have been a really, really bad trade. Now it is in the running for worst trade ever.

Especially with how Swanson has looked in the minors

Sad thing is that wasn't even the worse trade Stewart did with the Braves during the offseason-

Some of the quotes on the Toussaint trade-

quote:

This deal stood out and shocked the astute baseball community for one reason: Teams don’t do this. Moves of this variety rarely happen because people around the game are smart enough to know that first-round picks don’t grow on trees. Toussaint has as high of a ceiling as any current minor league pitcher outside of perhaps Lucas Giolito and Julio Urias. For a team short on impact prospects, he was easily the player with the highest potential impact. The team obviously agreed with that assessment when they gave him $2.7 million as a signing bonus

quote:

I don't see how anyone can claim that it is. MLB doesn't have any responsibility to protect any team from its own stupidity, but it does have a genuine interest in maintaining the long-term competitiveness of all of its franchises.

If it was for just Swanson it would have still been a bad trade. But to throw in Inciarte and Blair... Really really awful

I can almost understand shipping off a guy you drafted #1 overall just six months earlier, for an opportunity to aquire a pitcher like Kershaw or even Greinke.....but for Shelby Miller? And they gave up Inciarte and Blair too? I was mind-boggled when I read the trade.

Put pretty much unmeetable expectations on Miller.

Probably a little hyperbole here.

Probably. And in terms of results, I doubt it ever gets there. In terms of the process though, it's hard to think of many worse, especially in the recent era when teams have been getting so much smarter.
