Now Major Applewhite takes over and will have to deal with a program that has the expectations of a power conference team yet is still in a Group Of 5 league, similar to the atmosphere at Boise State. Just read what Houston president Renu Khator says about the stakes at UH:

"The winning is defined at University of Houston as 10 and 2," she told faculty and staff at the annual holiday party at her home. "We'll fire coaches at 8 and 4.”

Houston Season by Season By my quick count, since 1980, they've had 4 season with 2 or fewer losses, and 2 of those they were ineligible for the postseason.

In that time span, they've had 13 losing seasons, including 6 since 2000 alone.

They may want to temper the expectations just a bit.

They fired Tony Levine after going 8-5 two years in a row so she's probably telling the truth

yeah but then they have the nerve to demand loyalty from these guys now....with comments like this and from the booster the other day, Major should leave the moment he gets a good offer

I don't think there is anything wrong with saying we expect our coach to win 10 games a year. This is being overblown.

Fertita was on local news saying that Applewhite may have a season or two at 7 to 8 wins but he'll probably have some at 11 or 12 wins. He was pretty realistic with expectations.

He said they were most worried about keeping continuity in the program. I think this may be a mistake to go for continuity over best available but we'll see.

It's a gamble, but I think they saw that the Herman rumors were already hurting the situation going into this season. It's tough to keep recruiting and donor momentum up when there's uncertainty every few years.

They're in a weird place. They have a relatively small donor base that's gotten its hopes up.

What a moron

They had two solid years and now think they can compete and win 10 games for at least another twenty years
