Has the NFL officiating with pass defense gone overboard?

DB's are at such a disadvantage now. It just seems like every play is either interference or defensive holding now. Scoring is definitely up and that's what the NFL wants but outside of Seahawks (who get away with murder) it has become more penalty driven and you don't even need a running game anymore.

Absolutely....Refs are WAY too eager to call pass interference.

I can agree to a certain extent but a lot of the times they truly are interfering. I can't stand seeing arms wrapped around receivers and arms locked up. I get more angry at the non-calls than I do the overboard calls at times.

I love the thought that it's one giant conspiracy to help the Seahawks.

Seattle would have won the game yesterday if a blatant PI was called, but it wasn't. Although Seattle got away with a similar one earlier in the game.

That's exactly why I couldn't be mad about the missed call on Kearse. At least they were consistent in their calls.

The reason I am only a very casual fan at best.

The Mel Blount Rule & basically allowing O Lineman to hold on pass protection is to blame for the inflated passing stats.

The League decided 14- 10 smashmouth games weren't appealing.

The rules have been in effect for a long time but now they are really enforcing it( Not touching receivers beyond 5 yards).

I rember the Colts really whining about how the Patriots manhandled Marvin Harrison in the playoffs.

Rules been around for decades. Its the the enforcement......

is total complete bullshite. A DB can put his hands up in air minding his own fricking business and get called PI bc the offense thinks they should be able to go through a defender to get to where ball was poorly thrown to. A defender shouldn't have to turn his fricking head.

Of course it has, and there is no question about it.

If you noticed, after ARC got called for PI on that incredible PBU, he(and the other Giant defenders) were very timid in coverage in fear of getting a bullshite PI called on them.

It was almost laughable on that last drive, because I was thinking-no wonder Romo is finding all of these guys so easily, the defenders don't want to draw a bullshite PI!

With Fantasy Football I doubt whether they are going back to the days of Bump & Run when you could hit a reciver any place on the field(without ball in the air).

I think a good compromise would be a 10 yard area from the line when Defensive players can check/ bump receivers .

The passing game advantages is my pet peeve with the NFL.

I should be a 15 yard penalty. The whole spot foul is absurd

Pass interference penaltys should be reviewable

pi calls and the overabundance of flags on returns are making football hard to watch.

Well, holding is holding. Cant argue that one. PI, on the other hand, is a bullshite problem. The biggest problem is that db's are fricking atrocious lately. Db coaching as a whole is not good. The biggest irritant is the lack of sense to turn your fricking head and make an attemp to look for the bal. The most frustrating thing is balls hitting them in the back or helmet. Defenders playing further of the line than the line to gain is widespread and mindboggling. But WWF moves are allowed as long as its the end of the half or regulation.

I think that the rule should be changed to where if a WR initiates contact, then all bets are off. A lot of these PI calls, or illegal contact calls are because the WR puts his hands or arm on the defender and the DB is trying to shed that contact with his hands, thus illegal contact on the DB...

Agreed. I saw a few calls this weekend where the offensive guy is trying to push off and the defender moves his arm off of his chest and gets a PI call. WR can do pretty much anything an never get called. I dont understand why they dont try to fix this.

yes, it's complete garbage. Completely arbitrary. Goodell has fricked this league beyond recognition.

it is the toughest thing to put up with watching an Nfl game now, yes.

a handful of times you hear the color commentator say, boy... I didn't see much there.

course, the refs aren't always in the best position to make the call either. Still doesn't make up for some of it though.

some of the WR's are just too quick to jam at the line and if you can't get them there... you are in trouble.
