Five-star guard Hamidou Diallo is enrolling at Kentucky this weekend, but will likely never don the blue and white in an actual game. Graduated from high school early in the spring, meaning he can go into the NBA Draft this season

Makes no sense if he wants to go into the draft this year.

Sign with an agent and spend the next 5 months training for combines, workouts etc. 24/7

It says he graduated in the spring of 16. Why didn't he enroll in college this past year?

It's essentially access to pro-like facilities at UK for a semester and Cal rolling the dice to see if he stays another year. We'll see. As long as he doesn't frick up UK's APR and the guys gain some experience from practicing against him then so be it.

It's so amusing that one-and-dones don't affect APR at all.

Doubt he ever plays for us, but he should stay and play next year to better his chances in the draft. If he doesn't stay then that's even less tape scouts have of him and all they know is he's a 6'5 SG that can't shoot. Those are a dime a dozen in the NBA.

I apologize if this is a dumb question, but is he playing the rest of this season? I'm assuming he is, but I didn't see it said explicitly.

Word is, he comes in and work on his game for next season...it sounds like Cal made it clear he has to come back for next season for the spot.

What can Cal do to stop him leaving?

Cal is not the one going to stop him...but no NBA team it's going to take take him early in the draft. The kid has to work on his shot for a shooting guard...the upcoming draft is loaded and the kid would would be picked late in the 1st round...maybe late or in early 2cd. I am betting the kid is playing for UK next year.

Knowing Cal it'll likely come down to whether it fricks with team chemistry and if he can work his way into the rotation. If he's going to be leaving after next season at the latest, it's not like a redshirt would matter at this point so he may see some time.

It's an odd situation all around so I don't know anyone can say for sure.

APR is only affected if a player bails on course work he/she started in the current semester. If they finish the semester in good standing, APR will be in good standing.

Is he given a scholarship? He has already announced he's going to the draft. Makes no sense.

He did sign with an agent that's deeply connected to all of the best agents, his name is Agent John Calipari.

FWIW they just talked about him during the game and said his intent is to not play this season (just practice with the team) and stay for next year at Kentucky.

We'll see if that happens when draft evaluations come out.
