Third time in his career.

quote:

Gregg Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs was named the NBA Coach of the Year on Tuesday, becoming just the third three-time winner of the award in league history.

quote:

This marked the 15th consecutive season the Spurs have reached the 50-win mark under Popovich.

quote:

Popovich tallied 59 first-place votes and 380 points in balloting among sportswriters and broadcasters, finishing just ahead of Phoenix Suns coach Jeff Hornacek, who had 339 points (37 first-place votes).

quote:

Chicago's Tom Thibodeau (159 points), Charlotte's Steve Clifford (127) and Toronto's Dwane Casey (70) rounded out the top five.

Such a dumb award. How can you possibly quantify how good a coach is based on an outside perspective?

Can we please just stick to all things Pop please?

And another thing, it's been rare for a NBA coach to win it all after winning COY. So your comment is even more pointless.

But this is a single season award. The other 14 don't matter.

And talent on the team has a lot to do with winning.

The best coach in the world can't do anything with the Sixers.

Pop won the title after being named COY in 2003

Pop should win coach of the year every year.

They need to rename the award to the "Gregg Popovich Coach of the Year Award."

This holds no weight when every year people are surprised the spurs are still winning. They were "too old" a decade ago, but here they are again. That's Pop

No idea. Just saying, if anyone can do it, Pop can

Yeah, Pop is a good coach. But who is to say he's more deserving than several other coaches? That's why the award is stupid. There is no way to quantify how good a coach is this particular season.

They need to rename it the Tim Duncan award.

Uh oh...Miami Fans are getting testy. Is the bandwagon a little nervous for this year's playoffs?

The voters.

The award isn't stupid because you say it's stupid. And there are lots of ways to quantify how good a coach is. Several have been mentioned in this thread already.
