Great SI article on Michael Kidd-Gilchrist

Talks about the struggles with his shot and his speech. There were some questions about it during the 2012 Final Four but I don't think anyone really knew until recently the extent to which his stutter really gave him trouble.
Still probably one of my favorite players from UK. One and done or not.

Holy shiz. That's a long article. Bookmarked for a rainy day. Can you quote some of the good parts?

Not that long, quick read. Reading that reminded me of my last days as a competitive athlete and how obsessive perfectionism destroyed my confidence and ability. Definitely can sympathize with him, he was severely over drafted and those expectations probably crushed him. He would probably be a great as a second round energy guy without high fan expectations. Thanks for posting bluegrass.

He's still young and still such a freak athlete. If he ever puts it all together he'll be elite, but I doubt we ever see that.

He's been a huge bust, poor charlotte. It seems like besides kemba they can never draft the right player.

In his third year in Charlotte, he's improved vastly every year.
He came in as an 18/19 year old with absolutely zero shooting ability.
He's shooting 43% from 10-19 ft range this year, compared to 35% last year, and even worse his rookie year
He's already had twice the double doubles this year than last year.
When he was injured, the Hornets went on a 10 game losing streak, 11 of 13.
Since he's been back, and since the turn of the new year, the Hornets have gone 13-4. He's a major reason for Charlottes defensive resurgence and climb up to 7th in the East, and only 5 games under .500
MKG is far from a bust. He was young and his biggest flaw is something that is so key right now. His ability to attack the rim, lock down on D and hustle his arse off make him a fantastic player. With his improved jump shot, and free throw percentage, he is definitely trending up and is far from a bust.

A real life Charlotte fan on the board? It's like a unicorn.

There were a lot more sticking their heads out around the end last season and during the draft. A lot of people thought they'd be pretty good this year.

They were in the playoffs last year.

Injuries and Lance Stephenson forgetting how to play basketball doesn't equal a very good team.
Defense has really turned it up lately and even without Kemba, they're playing at a really high level

MKG is improving. It still cracks me up that he lost 1 on 1 against Jordan when he first got there.

Love me some MKG. Even if he never develops a jumpshot he will always have a great place in the league because of the other things he brings to the table.

I remember the first time I saw him in person, he shut down LeBron in a preseason game. Justise Winslow reminds me a lot of him, except Justise is a much better shooter than MKG was in college.

If he can develop a consistent three point stroke, he will be extremely valuable on his next contract.
Posted on 2/6/15 at 11:15 am to pdandi1
enjoy the early increasing stats by year because those will surely soon plateau. The guys jump shot is broken and if he doesn't completley start fresh with a new stroke he will never have a consistent jumper.

You don't have to agree with me, but drafting a player number 2 overall in a stacked draft that cannot shoot is a recipe for a bust. Yes he hustles and brings d and energy to the table, but without a consistent jumper he will never be worth the number 2 pick they used to get him. Charlotte essentially plays 4 on 5 with Mkg on the court.

whoa. I didn't realize there was another Hornets fan here. Moved from Charlotte last yaer so I've only been to 1 game this year.
