I skimmed it and stopped when they started talking about how soccer is more American because the players are freethinkers and also free to go wherever they want on the field. While football, on the otherhand, has rules that limits which players can go where. Therefore soccer is more American because freedom.

Salary caps are incredibly un-American. Football has salary caps. Any sport without a salary cap therefore has a much better case for being "more American" than football.

I grew up with football, it's my favorite sport. I did gain an appreciation for soccer when living overseas though. I'm comfortable in either sphere, to be honest.

You know what is more American than anything? Creating a monopoly and absolutely dominating a market. Who does that? The NFL is the undisputed king of sports and tv in the US.
