The new local rule states: "When a player's ball lies on the putting green, there is no penalty if the ball or ball-marker is accidentally moved by the player, his partner, his opponent, or any of their caddies or equipment.

I caught it on golf channel tonight. If they're practicing putting and accidentally hit it they can move it back, among other things.

I don't watch but was this actually enough of a problem to enact this rule?

That's nice, but the rule wasn't really the controversy, the way it was enforced was the issue. I don't see where they elected to have that changed...

There would've been no controversy under this new rule. He would've had to put his ball back with no penalty under the new rule.

His ball moved centimeters. The argument is agronomy.
The greens are slick as glass.
